i just found out my son has adha and they want him to start taking Adderall i am just a lil conern about about letting him take it. please let me know if it has worked for your child. thank you ↓

| I am 26 years old, married and have a much younger sister, through foster adoption who has ADHD and was prescribed medication. It is the newest medication on the market for ADHD. My Dad was very against putting her on medication and she suffered through two full years of school without it. They were horrible for her and she enjoyed nothing and noone enjoyed her! Finally my Mom convinced him to give the medication a try and now he wishes he would have given it to her all along. She is happy, intelligent, sociable and pleasant to be around. She can sit still and pay attention and actually stick with something for longer than five seconds. She is no longer moody and unsociable. They (and she) are extremely pleased with the results and would recommend it to anyone! You and your child will benefit from that tiny pill! ↑ |

| my son is 8 years old also. he has adhd and we starting this when he was 4 years old. when he was 5 we started trying medications. we try alot of them before we found the right one for him. Adderall made me son very angry and afraid of everything. Concerta worked for two years for my son but now he lost to much wait and it started changing his personallty. he is now not on any medication. The school is really working with him. they see the potential in him and they do not want him to get lost ↑ |

| My 11 year old son has been on Adderall since he was 4. Unlike many of my friends, the meds seem to go very well for him. He does very well in school and is mostly a straight honor roll child. Most days he is happy, sociable and very loving. Still there are them days... where even medication cant help stubborness. I wasnt pleased at all about putting him on the medication but I see now that if I didnt.. we wouldnt have gotten as far as we have. I felt like a failure but even he will tell you.. he needs the medicine. If Adderall doesnt seem to work for him, there are other meds out there that eventually you will find will fit him! | My son was recently diagnosed (2 wks ago, he's 6) with ADHD & ODD. His doctor prescribed a new patch called DAYTRANA CII. It seems to be helping a little. We may need to go to the next step in dosage, though. He likes to put on the patch in the morning & take it off at night by himself. It releases the medication through a clear transdermal patch over a 10 hour time frame. And unlike Adderall, food intake does not interfere with the absorbsion of the medication through the skin. I think this is a great way to go. Anyone out there using this let me know how it's going for you..... :) ↑ |

I'm in the same situation and my son is only 6 and they want him to take ritalin. We thought long and hard about it. My son is very bright and is in a blended class ( has a specail ed teacher as well as regular ed in classroom). The Special Ed teacher sits right next to him and he still can't play attention. He's also showing anxiety. The Dr suggested a clincal trial in the Fall of ritalin and also behavior modification therapy. I'll meet with the psychologist in Aug.
If my son is bright enough to know there's a problem he needs help. The school did all they could and we can atleast try medication. We can still say no if we don't like it or it has bad side effects.
I'd ask the Dr if you could do a clinical trial.

| my son was diagnosed with adhd odd and now torrets when he was 4,i was very scared of putting him on medication,but i gave in+hes bin on it since,hes now 9+does better+better at school all the time,he couldnt cope with school before+now he loves it,i wouldnt say its 4 every1 as were all difrent but if u cant find another way its worth a try. ↑ |

| Ok I have my son on concerta and he was on that adderall and it made him worst. He got to wear he was hitting me and his sisters when he was on that. He isn't like that now. ↑ |

Hi Moni. My daughter is on Adderall, Risperdal and Clonodine. She takes the Adderall to control the ADHD, the Risperdal to control the ODD and the Clonodine so she can sleep at night
Yes, they all work.....when she remembers to take them .....she does taken fairly regularly but I would say that she forgets at least one dose of her Adderall and Risperdal a week. She takes each of these twice daily....I'm having a problem with her remembering to take them every day twice a day. Her excuse is "I forgot" but she has been on them for the past 7 years and it has been the last 1 and a half that we have left the responsibility to her (advice from her doctor) because she is going to be 12 shortly and we were told that she has to learn some sort of resposibility of not being treated like a little kid and being told constantly to take them. ↑ |

| My daughter has ADHD and she is on the medication, Strattera. This is a non-stimulant drug that last for 24 hours. I have never tried the other medications like Adderall, but it is my understanding that it wears off about 4:00 everyday and since it is a stimulant, they don't eat or sleep very good on this medication. I have not have any problems with the Strattera and I have seen great improvements in her focus at school and her grades show that she is better able to concentrate. You might want to talk with your doctor about Stratters. ↑ |

| hi my son is 8 years old to he has been on ritalin now for about 7 months but although he has lost alot of weight which is the down side to it he has changed 90% he sits for periods of time he plays with other children without hiting them ever two minutes he still has his problems and probley always will but i herd so muxh horror stories about the ritalin and it made me bad to think that i would let my son on it but i must admit it is the best thing i did for him he calls them his consentrating tablets and he knows when they are wearing off and says thats why cause my tablests have worn off it time for a new one and he knows it is quiet good like i say its just the appitite is not at all good but i allow him to eat at night when there all worn off... ↑ |

| I have done lots of research on this subject and have found that many of these medications are the equivalent to cocaine and act only as a band-aid, not a cure. In addition, the jury is still out on long term effects of these types of drugs. Before you do this, I highly suggest a hair test on lead and other heavy metals. If you find that there is heavy metal poisoning (very common for adhd kids) then you can find a good homeopathic physician who will do a gentle heavy metal cleanse. Get online and find "foods to cure depression." Have him eat only these whole foods. The diet is actually a brain healing diet and adhd, in my personal findings, is due to a deficiency of certian nutrients in the brain. Also, get him on fish oil at least 3000 mg a day. You can go higher than that even. Alternate the fish oil with flax oil every few weeks, but he needs omega3 fat for healthy brain cells. I also recommend a food allergy test. Most of our food is now genetically altered and the cause of many allergies. Let us know what you decide to do. God Bless ↑ |

| hi..my son has add/adhd/ he hs been on meds since 2000,,,,until they get the right dosge and med. that will work it may take awhile...his hyperactivity makes me crazy....i also have a 2 year old and a 4 month old.....it is very hard with him and the other kids.....we got to thearpy for himand he sees a doctor for his meds..the meds.. do help its just until; they find the right dosage and the right meds ↑ |

| I am needing help with my 2 y/o. Everyone is telling me "it just terrible twos" but I don't think so. But he's always climbing things, won't set still for meals, if he gets into trouble he'll slam his head into anything he can-the floor,wall, deck anything- It seems like he never learns. | I cured Cadee's adhd by changing her food. I wrote about it. The title is cure for adhd. I would suggest that you get a second opinion from another doctor before giving any drugs. I would look up the side effects on the Food and Drug Administration website. Some of the side effect don't show for years. I would ask the doctor specifics. He should know exactly what is causing the adhd, and how the drug will correct the problem. Finally, I would suggest a full physical. I read in the newpaper here that a hearing problem was diagnosed as adhd. I would be very careful, and explore every other avenue before giving him drugs. ↑ |

| my son was on adderall since diagnosed when he was 4. He was recently taken off due to insurance not covering the cost. He then went to Strattera and now on Daytrana which is a patch. All medications have their perks, Nolan did well on Adderall but it did need to be increased. He still to this day has problems in school. But that medication worked fairly well while on it. He is now 9. That was my son's first medication when he was diagnosed. Ann ↑ |
