Hi JD, my grandson also goes through this with his medication. He is 8 and weighs in at 53 pounds. What I have done when he is with me is make food fun for him. We roll spinach leaves up with cheese inside. I make him help me wiht foods so he can have fun eating them. However, if it were up to him he would only eat sugary items. I have none in my home. Apples cut up with peanut butter are fun.
I know as you do that these meds do create lack of appetite, which is sad. Children need a certain amount of nutrition. We as parents and grandparents just have to find a way to make food appitizing for them.

The dose may be too high....call your doctor and let them know so that the dose can be adjusted. Now that school is out or almost out it's a good time to adjust doses without messing with school.
Also, it takes about 6 weeks, or at least it did for my kids for the symptoms to even out. I made the boys eat something at each meal. It's also important to makes sure your son is drinking enough water. ↑ |
| dont force him to eat alot at meals...small portions maybe several times a day instead of 3 big meals...we never expect him to eat the traditional meals. also give him cereal at night before bed...They usualy eat that. ↑ |
