My son had a seizure episode not too long ago. He had on-going ADHD issues and had been diagoised with such even before this first seizure emerged. We took him to a pediatric neurologist about the seizure and we also addressed the ADHD concern. My sons neurologist indicated that there are certain ADHD meds that interfer with children who have seizures. He mentioned that sometimes stratera and concerta can do this and as a matter of fact out of all the ADHD meds he recommended taking Adderall xr was his #1 choice that would NOT interfer with seziure problems. My son has been taking this to treat his ADHD. We have not put him on any anti-sezuire medication as of yet because he has only had one seizure. (that we know of ) The doctor says that if he does end up developing another seizure that he would then put him on an anti-seizure med and also leave him on the adderall, if the anti-seizure med. didn't act as a mood stabilizer. If this did happen he would then be graduated down from adderall xr to regular adderall to not interfer with the seizure meds.
He also told me that there are certain anti-sezuire medications that are also adhd friendly one of these that he mentioned is focalin. They help knock off the ADHD symptoms while treating the seizure problem. Sometimes not all adhd meds or anti-seizure meds are the right ones for certain children. If you are noticing that the medication your child is taking is not the right fit tell your dr. so they can try something else. Sometimes it takes finding the right medicine to do the right job. (That is so tricky and frustrating, but no two children experince seizures or ADHD problems in the same areas in their brain..thus why we have to sometimes have to look until we find what works for our kids)
On a final note, my neurologist was telling me that sometimes there is a link between ADHD symptoms and seizures. Sometimes depending on where your child is recieving a shock to his brain (i.e. front temproal lobe area, etc) that sometimes the area that is recieving the shock might be an area that is controlling speech or mood/behavior. Make sure that after a seizure occurs that your child doesn't regress in speech. If so this could be LKS (too long to spell, sorry) A neurological problem where children have ADHD like behavior and loss of speech due to the seizures that they are experincing. If this is the case a speech therapist can help to retreave lossed speech. Most children recover from this if caught in time.
Also get a neuropsych evaluation from a child pyschiatrist for proper diagnosis for other things that could be connected to this seizure/ adhd thing. Is there any sensory issues going on with this? An occupational therpaist may be able to help with any of those issues too.
I hope all of this has helped you. Good luck. There are resources out there you just have to be a dilgent detective(I know this first hand..can you tell? ). God Speed!
Sincerly,
Concerned Mom

I hsve been taking adderall for the past 2 years nad i have gotten sick and depreesed off of it. i am only 17 yrs old and do not beleive that a child should be treated for adhd i think a parent should find tasks for the child to stay busy and keep themselves motivated not drug them up and make them someone theey areally arent!!

Hello....I have 3 children, ages 13, 9, and 8. All three of them are ADHD and all three of them Take Adderrall XR 30mg in the morning, then take an Adderall 10 mg (regular) in the afternoon.
I would not be here today if it were not for this medication! I went through a very nasty divorce and was struggling with that, learning how to be a single mom, and asking God WHY did I have to be a single mom of three kids with ADHD! Dont get me wrong, I would do ANYTHING for my babies!! But having three that were a lot younger at the time, and that were absolutely uncontrollable was enough to break anyone! My oldest son was diagnosed first. He had always been an honor roll student, and believe it or not, he kept his grades up even before the medication. He just was constantly in trouble and couldnt sit still. He has never really studied, all of his schoolwork just came to him. I know...it sounds crazy, but it's true! But after he was diagnosed, and we FINALLY found the right drug, it ws like a new child had been born. He was happy, calm, and began to excell even more at school! We had tried A few different drugs, but each had their own side effects. But when he started the Adderall, I KNEW that was the one. Now it took almost a year to get the exact dosage adjusted right, but he has now been on this dosage for going on two years now. He has started puberty, and I havent really seen anything odd or out of the norm for him because of the meds. Me second and third children were diagnosed within a year of my oldest son being diagnosed. And again, with them too....the whole world changed! MY WORLD CHANGED!! I noticed that in myself I was not NEARLY as stressed and depressed, and snappy or irritable. All of frustration I blamed on just life, I truly believe now was having to survive three undiagnosed ADHD children as a brand new single mom. Once they were all diagnosed, and all the dosages set right....WE ALL WERE HAPPY AND BEGAN A NEW HAPPY AND PEACEFUL CHAPTER IN OUR BOOK OF LIFE!
For us...ADDERALL is the miracle drug, and NO WAY will i EVER be ashamed or feel bad for "drugging" my children!! ADHD is a disease that requires medication, just like if I had high blood pressure or diabetes and I needed meds. There is no difference in my opinion. My children stuggled with their own lives everyday, and had to put up with me almost to the point of a nervous break down. All of that VANISHED with getting them diagnosed and treated!
I will tell ANYONE tht questions themselves about putting their kids on medication, that if anything should be called "bad parenting" then it would be "YOU NOT GETTING YOUR CHILD THE HELP HE NEEDS!" I dont see why ANYONE would WANT to watch their child struggle EVERYDAY just to make it through the school day, and then allow that stress to come home from school with them and bring total chaos into the home.

Sorry for preaching here..lol...but this is one subject that I will preach all day about because it has made such a huge difference in our family!
I am now engaged to be married to a wonderful man who loves my kids and we now all go on camping trips and family trips weekly! That was something I couldnt even consider back then before the meds. Shoot, I couldnt even take my kids in the grocery store to get a gallon milk! It would be a HUGE episode if I did!!

Thanks for letting me ramble on here...and I hope my story might help some family out there....

You cant simply "find tasks" for and ADHD child. They are not capable of completing them. Nor is that accomplishing anything , or helping them in any way! That's like saying if you have on going diarrhea...that never goes away...just keep drinking Pepto Bismol!
You have to TREAT the disease, NOT put a band-aid on it.

pe-od husband sounds as if there might be more going on than adhd have you checked out manic depression. or if she is abusing the adderal maybe she needs detox to get her life straight. i hope you discover a solution that will help keep the family together but safety comes first and as do your children. i commend you for paying attention and whish you the best of luck. maybe talking to her doctor would be a start if she wont talk to you.

I am a 17 year old abuser of adderall. I love taking adderall, I deal with the side effects by taking more. I would not recommend them for small children seeing as it is a heavily adored pill in the drug world. It's heavy and I've read a few cases of bad adderall side effects. IDK. But I adore adds and take about 200 mgs in a 28 hour time period. I'm on 75mgs right now.us

However, unlike you College Kid. I do not need it. It is very hard to get where I am from. So I am forced to go for weeks, sometimes months without it. BUT I do like it so much in the sense of want, that I would consider myself addicted. But I do not care one bit. For the effect it has on me is bliss!

Is anyone presently logged-on who can answer some of my questions on Adderall?

Name: Aunty | Date: Jan 1st, 2008 9:48 PM
I have my nephew on a low dose, 10 mg and you can tell a difference. Also meds should be concurrently used with behavior modification therapy. I don't necessarily "find tasks" because anyone with an ADHD child knows most of them cannot focus on anything for long, except maybe video games and TV...which I think worsens the problem. I do, however, have him sit and do his work, I do make sure most of his toys are actually learning based...VTech, LeapPad, computer, and workbooks. I make sure he reads, I stay on top of him a lot...I feel overbearing, but it seems to help.

I have not noticed any side effects specifically attributable to Adderall. Sometimes he has decreased appetite (but it seems to improve if I offer his favorite cereal....hmmm) and has been wetting himself after being potty trained (but I notice he gets engrossed in play and tries to hold it until the last minute, so I don't think it's a physical problem). I have his liver tested. So far so good....

i've taken about 350 mg of adderal in the past....oh.....id say 24 hours, in a spanned out period, i just woke up, wide awake, thought i was seein shit at first but then came to my focus, and i have been sitting at this computer for an hour and a half waiting for someone to tell me i'm going to be alright, or die already, oh, and i also took a sleeping pill to help bring me down, most of the time they knock me right now, but all it did for me was made my vision blurry.

ive took amy son off equasyn xl for many reasons. 1st of all i ,and many other people who know him dont think he has it. he is polite and at this moment he is sitting drawing pictures quietly, yet the school he goes to reacons he has it so ...wham !he ends up on tablets. within 3 weeks he was up till 1am in the morning and no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get him out of bed and i was getting him to school at 10.30 am. he lost loads of weight, wouldnt eat and most of all he became bad temperd and rude. what annoys me is that the doctor filled a yes /no questionare in and the computer said he had it so that was that. the doctor had only met him for 15mins and even he said he was a polite little boy. hes off it now. is it just me but all kids have changed these days. lack of respect etc. no kid was on these stupid tablets when i was a kid.
