my son was on adderall since diagnosed when he was 4. He was recently taken off due to insurance not covering the cost. He then went to Strattera and now on Daytrana which is a patch. All medications have their perks, Nolan did well on Adderall but it did need to be increased. He still to this day has problems in school. But that medication worked fairly well while on it. He is now 9. That was my son's first medication when he was diagnosed. Ann

My son was diagnosed at 3 1/2 and was put on ADDerall XR at 4. IN his CASE....this has helped him focus on the teacher and actually learn. I hated to do it, but in the long run...we all want our children to learn, right!? I am thankful we did it...I feel that I can enjoy him and not battle him.( He does get stomach aches with it)

I would suggest that you do research. Not all add or adhd people need meds some just need to educate themselves on coping tools and such. Bottem line is it's up to you and how severe the situation is. Just remember some people think it is easer to drug em' instead of deal with em'.

My son was on Adderall but it made him worse. I think you have to do research and find out what meds are out there and available for your children. Just because it didn't work for my son doesn't mean it won't work for yours, every child is different. I have had to have him on so many different medications before we found one that works which is focalin but unfortunetly he has side effects from the Focalin. I know side effects happen so we have to keep trying different ones until we find one that will help him without giving him ticks. Good luck and don't give up

Hi I also have an 8 year old son diagnosed with adhd. We tried Adderall, not much improvement, up'd the dose and he was agressive. Also tried Strattera and Concerta. They didn't seem to help, and my son became withdrawn and had "melt downs" when the medicine wore off. We are now trying diet. No red dye 40 in foods. Really no artifical colors and we've got him in activies like circus and baseball. The teacher asked me Friday if I had given him anything because he finished his work in class and did pretty well all day. I think you need to figure what works for your son, and try to do whats best for him. The medication just seems to mask the problem. I wanted to figure out what is causing the problem and fix it. Don't know if we have yet, but I keep trying. Good Luck

I have adhd and I can't take strattera or ritalin. I take meds for schizophrenia called closapene and prolixin. I space out alot but I behave better when I'm not focused on what i'm doing. I'm bored easily and I move my arms or legs around alot.
