I am writing on behalf of a friend in need of advice...she is the single mother of a 21 year old son with autism. In the town they live, this is his last year
of school. She was told, point blank,
that there is no other program for him in this town. She knows that they will both end up in a state of depression. She is deliberately letting her house go into foreclosure, as she knows it won't sell within a year. (this is a woman with excellent credit...she didn't want to do it this way, but felt it was her only option) She is planning to move to Palm Harbor,Florida, where she lived about 10 years ago.
She is hoping there will be opportunities to get her son into programs for adults with autism. If she can't find help, at least she knows that she and her son will have more time in the year for outside activities than in the state they currently reside.
If anyone has any information about Palm Harbor autism programs, it would be greatly appreciated. Please help!

kansas is one of the leaders in autism. the government assistance provides u with respite care, behavior interventions, attendant care for only the behavior in school. they have coalitions for autism, support groups, schools understand autism, but must go to kansas city to the AARC Dr. Sue Ann Kline look her up on the internet AARC autism asperger resource center
