| Thanks for responding. If you feel your school is not listening to you and is not offering what is needed you can always homeschool your child. I am in the process of setting up things so that I can homeschool my child. Now I don't know what state you live in but all you have to do is go online and search homexhool child autism and it will find alot of things and just find which one applies to you and you state. That's what I did, I have grown very thick alligator skin since I first started dealing with our school district. Because they do make you feel stupid and belittle you at every turn. See if you homeschool your child you want have to go to court or worry about not having your child in the stupid school system. Like I said thank you for responding. On a more personal note just wondering now you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but is your son violent, can talk does he stem at all, does he give eye contact? ↑ |
Hello, I have 3 autistic children and I know exactly what you are going thru, you do have to fight the school system, thankfully I have not had the need to go to court, because when I threaten to seek legal counseling, it seems that a miracle happens and I get the therapies I request. I am not sure what State you live in, but I am in California. They started a pilot program, which the class is pretty much a 1 to 1 ratio and the students are ALL autistic, not mixed. I know alot of parents don't want these because they feel that their child will regress, but if you saw the students in my 8 and 10 yr old, you would never think they are autistic as they all pretty much are verbal. My son Jake does have bad fits. I did have a problem his 1st yr with a new teacher and I told her that if she could not handle him, then to let me know and I would contact the school district, her whole attitude changed. I am homeschooling my oldest, who is 12. He is very high functioning and the only class that they could put him in was with emotionally disturbed kids, I guess it is a nice way of saying juvenile delinquents. Even the prinicipal thought that he should not be in there. It is a little hard for him as it is not special ed, but he keeps up. If I told you the other horrible stories I have gone thru, you would not believe.
