hi i have a 10 year old son jamie who has autism,it was hard work when he was younger but is much easier now he is older. Its just that people sometimes stare at him and ask whats wrong with him, i feel protective as his mum.

this is for Kathy Hotz -

I tried to send an email to your address but for some reason it came back - I think it's my computer

you indicated your son is 9 years old and has a temper

I have 2 boys, ages 9 and 7 both autistic

the older one is the one who is so adaptable, loving and wanting to play with others (the younger one is more self contained) - but the older one has temper, so far as to hit himself about 4 months ago which would knock any adult down, then before xmas he started hitting others both accidentally and intentionally now he has started hitting himself again that I think children's aide will be called soon!

I am not sure how to deal with the tantrums - ignore it (that's what my husband does which I think makes it worse), spank him (not worth it), discipline him (by this time he has reached his peak and he does not listen) - just wondered how to deal with it and if you have any ideas

also - do you have toilet training ideas - both are trained for no 1 but not no 2 -

actually, anyone could answer - I would appreciate it

thanks

Cindy..
your son is nearing puberty.. he is going through hormonal changes and NO understanding of what is going on. 12 is such a normal age for "behaviors" to be exhibited, even in typical kids.

You need to find someone that will help you through the next stages of his life. The next 10 years are very confusing for him unless someone can help him approach it and deal with it. Best of luck

Hello to all you fantastic parents with special child, I am the mother of 5 great boys, 4 of whom have Autistic Spectrum Disorder, 3 with autism, 1 with Asperger from 14 years to 5 years. Our eldest son age 17 has dyslexia. Life is a constant rollercoaster of highs and lows. We live in Ireland, both my husband and I have given up our jobs to care for our sons. Is there anyone out there who has 4 children on the Spectrum? Would love to talk to parents with multiple children with ASD.
Take care everyone. Mary

Hi, My name is Robin And i have a 13 year old son who is Autistic. When Ricky was 1 and a half he was dianoised with Tubulur Scerorsis (T.S) since than he has been dianosied with Autsium and OCD (obsesesive compulsion disorder) My spelling stinks but iam lucky to have this moment... Ricky is in the tub so i have a few before he starts yelling. We have a meeting tommrow with his school because of his behavior he has been hitting, cussing telling the teachers hes the boss ETC.... Ricky talks in a third person most the time i will hear him say "Go ahead Ricky ask mom if she will let you go outside"
I have had more than a few strange looks from that one. okay iam back i knew it wouldnt be long i have read a few of your posts most of your children are still very young if i could turn back time and do anything over it would be the way i did things for ricky instead of taking the time to let him learn to do it his self. It is always easier to be in a hurry and just put thier socks and shoes on them it takes them 15 minutes and the whinning!!.... it is easier to just do it we will work on it later well....11 years later iam still dressing Ricky . So much i would love to share with you iam so consumed by Ricky and this Autisum life i dont even remeber the last time i took a shower without comming out to find Ricky sitting out side the door waiting on me. Others dont understand not really not unless thier child has autisum it is a word i have grown to hate a word i have grown to defend a word i have grown to accept as my own for that is my life because Ricky is my life. and Autisum is his life. Iam back i had to tape Ricky's head phones both sides why? i have no clue but he insisted Iam tired so tired as all of you can relate to escpecally the ones with older children with Autisum. I hope i find time to re visit this board and chat with all of you i would love to exchange ideas and thoughts i think the best help any of us could possibly have is one another sometimes just having a safe place to vent is something we all need from time to time..Robin GbsnMi@aol.com

Hi, I have a three year old Son who has autism. We are doing everything possible to help him. I was wondering if anyone has issues with lack of support re the diagnosis? We have no support from family and it is very difficult to deal with. I would love to find a little support and understanding. I know that I am not the only one going through all of this.
