Hi there. Your story sounds so familiar to me. My son was pee trained to go in the toilet, but he refused to go poo in the toilet. He would go stand in the bathroom and poo in his diaper and then take it off. At least your son is dumping his poo in the toilet.
You know a lot of kids are afraid to poo on the toilet, not just autistic kids, however they usually are over that fear by about 3 or 4 year of age. My son didn't like the idea of sitting on the toilet because he thought that he might get flushed down with the poo. I know this because he has since explained it to us. He is now 15 and can tell us why he does things and why he used to do certain things. My son also didn't like the noise of the flushing due to over sensitivity. How about getting him to go poo in a potty? I know he's a little old for this but it's a start and you can keep the potty in the bathroom, or wherever he feels most comfortable. Don't worry too much about this little quirk....geez from watching Supernanny on TV, I've learned that many kids his age have toileting issues. So, don't feel bad and be assured that it will all work out in the end. No pun intended. ↑ |
| My 4 year old son has pdd nos and he too took a long time to poop in the toilet. We tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked, it was so stressful and very annoying to have to clean up after him. And then one day, he just went all by himself..........hope the same is true for your son. ↑ |
