I am trying to throw a party for my 10 year old son. He wants a big due for all of his friends, but I just don't have the money. I can afford to spend about 200$ on the whole party...what can you suggest to make the day special, but inexpensive?  ?

Plan Ahead For Your Childs Birthday Party

When Carefully planned a young child’s birthday party will be a happy experience for you and the other mothers, as well as the children. Here are some party-planning suggestions taken from my experiences with three to five year olds.
Schedule the party for late afternoon, perhaps from 3pm to 5 pm. This gives young children plenty of time for an after lunch nap, so that they arrive rested and not cranky.
Keep the party-time at two hours, as this is a reasonable amount of time for children under five. Indicate hour on you invitations, so mothers will know how to plan their afternoon the day of the party. Some mothers may want to stay with their children, others may wish to drop off and pick up their children. Send out correct easy to understand invitations two weeks ahead of you party so that everyone you wish to invite can plan to come.
Limit the party to one room, where the kids can play and have fun. Be confident in knowing that your breakables are not in the party-zone. This also helps the decorations to stand out and catch the eye of every guest. Child size tables and chairs in the party room can put everything at eye level for young children, and keep their attention. Encourage adult guests to sit on a cushion on the floor and participate completely, but also have a standard size seat on hand.
Music should not overpower a birthday party; a low volume for background music is a good way to wind down an event. Children love to star in every event, so have more songs than ’happy Birthday ’ planed. Birthday party songs that kids love to sing and act out include The Wheels on the Bus, The Farmer in the Dell, Nanny’s Shopping Cart, and The Name Game.

At a birthday party ice cream and cake are traditionally served, but you can also serve cookies or cupcakes. Breaking bread together is a fabulous way to celebrate even for three to five year olds, so you may want to serve an afternoon snack right before the sweets. Children love eating finger-food. Suggestions include mini sandwiches or pigs in a blanket, nachos and fruit kabobs. This way, the children do not arrive home just in time for Tea (dinner) but with a ruined appetite.

A birthday party should be fun for everyone, so plan at least one activity suitable for every party guest. Having extra paper-plates on hand with markers and streamers so that everyone can make a mask leads to hours of imaginative play. If you have an old or unused shoe box on hand, then ask each child to draw a cake or a decoration for a part of a pretend cake on a index card. Then glue the finished index cards on the shoe box and display the pretend cake on the gift table.
Party games are a wonderful way to keep children moving and smiling. If you plan to play games make sure no child is left out of playing. Simple, short games are best and the most fun for young children. Ideas include, Red-Light Green-Light, Duck Duck Goose, and London Bridge. If you are going to have a piñata make sure that you have 3 to 5 pieces of candy per child, or 2 toys per child.
It is becoming command place to send each partygoer’s home with a goody-bag. Party favors are a wonderful way to teach the guest of honor that it is a nice to give a gift as it is to receive a gift. Remember young children who have just had a lovely snack and party sweets do not need a treat bag full of candy, but two or three for later are wonderful reminders of a wonderful time had by all.
Within two weeks of your child’s birthday party it is good form to send out Thank You notes to everyone who attended, even if they did not bring a gift. Involve your child in writing the thank you notes. Children as young as three can understand the concept of gratefulness and have fun adding a thumb print or a finger-paint hand print to a thank you note.
Themes for birthday parties should be kept age appropriate and with clean up in mind. Keeping entertaining fun and simple will help you as the host or hostess have a great day too.  =

We had a sleep over for our 10 year old. 6 boys and it was crazy. I took them to a park at night with dollar store flashlights and they played manhunt for a couple hours. Of course I knew the park was safe and fenced in and gave the boundaries. I scheduled it after one of his baseball games so they all met us at the ballpark. We cooked hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill and they had their own baseball game and played chase on the jungle gyms. You'd be surprised how much fun a group of boys could have in an open field. Then we rented a scarey movie after getting permission from the parents to watch something rated R. It also gave us a chance to "weed" out his friends, who was well behaved and who was obviously neglected.

The entire material thing really bothers me- I never had all the things my children have. My son opted to have every child bring in catfood or dogfood to the party instead of presents and I took all the kids to an animal shelter to hand it in. I truly don't think he'll remember all the presents he gets every year- but I think he will always remember that party and how good he felt.

What about pizza and cake at the house and then take them rollerblading in a dome? Thats usually about 5 bucks if they bring their own skates. Good luck!  =

Take him 2 a cheap but cool and fun store. Let him choose most of the stuff. Or just have a theme and let it all be about the theme.  =

My one emergency store: The Dollar store! For a few bucks you can pick out just about everything you need for the party. And as for the cake, just bake it yourself or have someone you know bake it. I hope my suggestion helped!  =

Well since he's turning 10 you should have the party at home, but make the party fun by having good games. Ask him what games he likes. then take those games and put a fun twist to them. for example... take something like hide and seek ,while the other kids hide who ever is it, takes a bunch of water balloons and who ever he finds he/she, gets to trow water balloon's at that person.See what I mean.Just take simple games He likes to play and put a fun twist to them.  =

hi, well why bother and plan a party by yourself? why dont you try something like burger king? they take care of everything, food, gifts, special gift for b'day child, entertainment, video, decoration, invitation cards, all you have to bring is the cake. I dont know if they do it in your country, but in mine they do, they charge 4$ per kid here for a mimum of 20 kids, 2 hours. so 20x4 is 80, and everything is taken care of, no cleaning up later, no worries.  =

Hey, this is Joseph, I want to give my girlfriend a party on her 22nd birthday but I don’t really want to let her know, but some how when ever you try to hide stuff it comes out, ohh common, what will you tell her when you are writing invitations for people or going to a gift shop, I didn’t want her to suspect me of any thing, so decided to use internet and guess what I found all the party supplies on just a click at http://partysuppliesonline.com , people! You need to gift your partner properly it should be touching also and should have good value for money , I found this website http://gift-baskets-etc.com which really give food for though when you really want to gift someone, I succeeded to secretly invite all her friends and family through http://invitations-store.com it was a great sense of achievement to give my gal a surprise party without her knowing about it oops I forgot I personalize online banners for her from http://banner-store.com I really love her , i hope my xperiance could be of some help for a few of you.  =

Well being a kid myself and I was once 10 years old. But I know I am a girl but I think what I did for my 10th birthday was go bowling. We also had pizza there and went bowling and rock climbing. I had around 12 kids there in total. And I think it came to around $150 for the whole party. My parents said that was the best party they ever planned. Fun,Inexpensive and I loved it.  =

Hey guys .. Don't worry .. I have some GREAT ideas !! First I will do girls .. I am a mother of my own and my kids have already given me a lecture on their birthday .. here are ideas I have done in the past and advice .. Enjoy !!

GIRLS
+ Let the girls take over the largest room in the house .. cover the furinture in blankets and use fairy lights to drape over curtain rails. This way you don't have to spend a penny on decor !! But remember .. that room will be theirs for the evening soo do not go in their unless of emergencies !! .. your girls need freedom sometimes and they want to gossip and talk about boys. Put snacks on a table or on a large flat surface high up .. to avoid spilages on your carpets. you can order a pizza or cook a BBQ .. its great and the kids love it ! .. also I found that my kids sneek out onto the trampoline in the night which they find very exciting .. don't worry .. keep an eye out but pretend that you didnt see them !! they will find it more exciting !! bless them .. remember how you feel in your kids position so don't shout .. they find it very discomforting .. also the guests do too!! keep your cool and act calm .. also leave a few facials and nail polishs downstairs .. you know what girls are like .. they want to do everything !! get a few movies and let them have fun .. let them know your in control but don't make it obvious .. if that makes any sense !! good luck !!

xx my love xx  =

Have a fun party 4 ur son. He should be happy with anything. Food wise go 4 something cheap like pizza, or slopyJoe. Get cheap dallor store decorations no one will ever kno the difference. And dont 4get to have to traditional fall games, like bob 4 the apples, dunk a pumkin, and whos can find the all 31 pieces of candy in the leaf pile!!! fun fun fun! Thats what we did 4 my 10th birthday party.  =

Well, I guess that turning ten is a big break in someones life because they r turning double digits. SO i think the best way to celebrate his birthday in-expensively is to go bowling. Hope this advice hekps! bye.

well my birthday is in a couple days myself, but what i'm doing is i'm going to a lake by my house (a pool could work too depending where you live) and about 10 of my friends and i are going to be having a barbie Q and swimming in the lake, and we are going to be playing water games. But if the weathers not very good you should take you son to see "Harry Potter" the movie, i just saw it and it was really good! Or just have him invite his friends over around 5:30 and have dinner, cake and icecream and open presents and just play bingo or any other games your son likes. Thats all i can suggest to you. Hope this helps.
