Hello. I'm not gonna ask this for me, but for a friend of mine who recently adopted a baby. She'd love to breastfeed him, but she's afraid of herbs (she's allergic to a lot of stuff) So she'd like to know if adoptive breastfeeding is possible even without herbs.

Thanks in advance to all the ones who'll be able to help her. ^^  ?

I don't know if that's possible, maybe she should ask her doctor? How old is the baby?? If the baby is already drinking formula, I think it's best if he stays on the formula..That's like the most different question I think I've ever heard..I think it's soo touching a mother would want to breastfeed a baby that didn't come from her,I don't know if it's possible, I think it has to do with the hormones in us that allows our body to produce and create milk. Maybe there's a pill out there that could help your friend! Well, good luck and hope all turns out alright!  =

It is definitely possible, but it's a lot of hard work. You have to pump, as often as you can, for as long as you can, and start nursing now. Your friend can get a bag that you fill with milk, and it has a long tube that you place next to the nipple in the baby's mouth. Even though she isn't producing milk yet, if she waits until it comes in to begin nursing, the baby may not understand what it means anymore. If she starts now, he will know how, and the tube with milk will encourage him to stay latched, since he'll probably lose interest if there isn't anything coming out at all. Good luck to your friend!  =

By the way, I just wanted to mention that the hormones are responsible for colostrum release, the nipple stimulation coupled with hormones during that period of time is responsible for the release of milk. Since your friend won't be producing hormones until she starts nipple stimulation, it will be quite a bit harder for her, but it can be done!  =
