Yes you can bottle feed and breastfeed at the same time... I am due Feb 28th and this is our first child too. We are having a boy. I took a breastfeeding class recently and I recommend you take one if your hospital offers it. It is very helpful. The most important thing is that when you go back to school or work...you must still continue to pump your breast so your supply of milk does not decrease. You can also pump and freeze the milk in the special bags they make and you can freeze it up to 6 months. All you would do is thaw in the refrigerator and pour into any type of bottle. The classes I took were free. I recommend taking any classes you can. I learned so much that I didn't know before like the proper latch on techniques, rotation of postions, proper care for your breast while breastfeeding, etc. I hope this has helped you. I know before I took the breastfeeding class I was 50/50 deciding on what I wanted to do and after I took the class I was 100% sure I wanted to breastfeed. Congrats on you first baby...

| As the above poster said education is key to breastfeeding, take a class, do what you can to read up. While breastfeeding is natural it doesn't always come naturally but don't worry it will be an amazing experience. In addition to the information listed above make sure to hold off on bottles until 6 weeks to allow your breastfeeding relationship to solidify. Before 6 weeks and especially in the hospital introducing a bottle can cause confusion for baby. During those 6 weeks make sure to pump and store. It will be a great start to building up your supply for school hours. Congratulations on deceiding to breastfeed!! You will do GREAT!!! ↑ |
