my 11 month old still nurses anywhere from 5 to 7 times a day. he doesn't eat baby food but he does get table food. at 6 months old baby food should just be for experimting(sp?) and shouldn't take the place of nursing.

My 6 month old son still nurses about every 2-3 hours, sometimes more, we just recently started solids, one meal a day, I haven't notices a decrease in nursing.... well maybe, he used to cluster feed a lot in the evening, now he eats, nurses for a few minutes and then goes down... I love nursing but the every two hours thing is starting to wear me down, but I'm not sure when to introduce a second meal he has his checkup next week, so we will see what the doctor says, how many meals are you doing?

Off the subject I think its so funny when he wants to nurse and hes looking down my shirt, or if he's on my hip he tries to lay him self down in the "nursing position" while grabbing the "nummies", too cute,I'm gonna miss that one day

my baby is only taking one jar of food plus one bowl of cereal a day now. she spit up a lot at first with the cereal so i did it slow. she still is nursing quite a bit it's just she doesn't nurse as long as she did before. does your baby take a bottle firewife?? mine used to and about a month ago decided she wanted nothing to do with it!

Koz, my son has never taken a bottle, he absolutely refuses whether its formula, BM or just water, he gags, spits and cries uncontrobaly if you try to offer it, I don't mind too much though, I don't think I could leave him anyway! I am making my own baby food so I am not sure how much he's getting in comparison to jar food, I freeze it in ice cube trays, and were up to 2-3 cubes, we are not doing rice. He didn't like it and it made him constipated, he will eat a little oatmeal if I mix it with apple juice.

firewife-have u tried a sippy cup? my son hated taking a bottle. he will for my mom but that is about the only person he will take one from. anyways i tried lots of different sippy cups but he liked the Nuby ones. they have silicone spouts and they don't have that valve in them. anyways hope this will help.

Melissa, yes he will drink juice or water out of a sippy cup, I normally take the valve out, he has such a hard time with it, I haven't tried BM in a cup, I'm afraid that he will take it and then my "I can't go back to work, to the party, etc...because I can't leave my baby" excuse won't work! Actually I have tried formula in a cup and he wouldn't take, it is just so hard to pump and I hate to waste it, so I haven't even tried.

Looks like you are all regulars on this site. I have a six month who nurses every 2-3 hours, and that is with 1-2 solid meals a day. She has always been a big eater though. My frustration is that she has not slowed down with her night eating. She is still waking me up at least every 3 hours at night. Any suggestions on how to get her down to only feeding 1-2 times during the night?

Maggie I am sorry I have no suggestions for you, my son hasn't been sleeping too well lately, a friend told me about the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley, I looked it up at my library but its checked out, go figure I also heard the 12 hours of sleep in 12 weeks is good, haven't looked that up yet, I hope things get better for you

My son is six months old and will 85% of the time only nurse lying down. He will not take a bottle that well. Very difficult to feed in public! Anyone else have the same situation.

My daughter is almost 7 months and i need to get her used to a bottle. My husband and I are leaving for a vacation the end of May and she needs to learn to take the bottle from both of our mothers. I have introduced the bottle about a month after she was born and she was taking the bottle. Then we stopped becasue it was just easier for me to nurse her. Now she is eating baby food and I have been placing a bottle next to her as she eats the baby food. She grabs it and sucks a little as I hold it for her but won't drink that much. She basically just bits the bottle nipple. If my husband goes to feed her the bottle she just pushes it away and wants to nurse. What should I do? Any advice will help.

Also what is the valve on a sippy cup?
