EVERY NIGHT I ELEVATE MY FEET SO THEY DO NOT SWELL. WELL YESTERDAY I NOTICED THAT MY ANKLE AND FEET WERE SWOLLEN BAD. I ELEVATED THEM LASTNIGHT AND WHEN I WOKE UP THEY WERE FINE. THIS MORNING I ATE AND NOT BUT 1 HOUR LATER MY FEET START HURTING AND THEY FEEL HOT AND ARE STARTING TO SWELL AGAIN. I DONT KNOW IF ITS BECAUSE OF WHAT I AM EATING OR IF ITS BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA WEIGHT I AM HOLDING?

ANY IDEAS? SHOULD I BE WORRIED?

I would talk to your dr. It is really common to get edema while pregnant becuase you have extra amounts of blood and it is hard for you lymphatic system to keep the fluid circulating back up, but there are compression stockings that you can wear to help your body out and prevent some swelling. The can be a little hard to put on and they are not all that pretty, but they do the trick.

I had really bad swelling with my first. Some suggestions: drink lots of water (I'm sure you do already), don't sit or stand still for long periods, walk frequently, even if only for 5 - 10 minutes, keep feet elevated when sitting.

Check to see if you have pitting edema: press your thumb into your ankle or foot where it is swollen. Did it leave an imprint, or did the skin bounce right back? If it left an imprint, let your doctor know. I think it's associated with preeclampsia.

I WILL CHECK THE THUMB PRINT THING WHEN I GET HOME CAUSE ITS NOT SO BAD RIGHT NOW. I WALK ALOT AT WORK BUT DO NOT ELEVATE MY FEET CAUSE MY DESK IS WEIRD. I DRINK ALOT OF FLUIDS. IF ITS REALLY BAD THIS AFTERNOON I WILL CALL IN THE MORNING.

JILL WHERE DO YOU GET THE COMPRESSION STOCKINGS AT?

at a durable medical equipment provider. you dr will know where to send you. If you are on your feet ofter in is good to have them anyway because they promote healthy circulation. Nurses were them often.

no problem. He will prescribe a compression either 20-30mmhg or 30-40mmhg after that I will need you to measure in inches around you ankle and around the widest part of your calf first thing in the morning before you are out of bed. this will let me know what size you need. Then I will be happy to ship you a couple of pair.

Swelling is not uncommon with pregnancy. I had swelling really bad with my son in my feet and ankles as well as my hands and wrist. My hand actually were so swollen that they were numb. This time around I haven't had any swelling and pray that in the next 15 days that I do not get any. It could be a mixture of what you are eating and you not being able to elevate your feet at work and being on your feet alot.

I work at a hospital and we always get reps that come and bring us free samples of anything you can think of. I have a couple of pairs my self. I don't get any swelling, but the keep your legs and feet from hurthing when you are on them all day.

My girlfriend starting swelling in her 20 th week, she was having twins, she hated it since she couldn't wear her wedding rings.

I have put on 24 pounds so far, I started at 130, it is hard to see he scale go up, in the 150's, but it is for a good cause, but also the extra cookies, candies and christmas goodies doesn't help either hehe.
