[ Original Post ]
My husband and I have two girls already, and I am 20 weeks into my second pregnancy...I remember with my first daughter, her heart beat was in the 160's and so is this baby..I was wondering if anyone has had a son who had a high heart rate (160's) while in utero.

thats what i was wondering too. they say that when you have a heart rate over 160 then its a boy and when its below that, its a girl. we wanted a boy soo bad!!! my first visit to the doctor was at 12 weeks and the heart rate was 143. i went monday to the doctor when i was 19 weeks and the heart rate was 150 something. i couldnt hear her because she turned away but i know it was in the 150's. today i went back to get a sonogram and it was a BOY !!! im soo happy. thats what we were hoping for and that myth about the heart rates didnt work for me. if it did, i would have ended up with a girl. good luck. at least thats the way i heard it, i might be backwards.

Madisons heart rate was always over 155 and this babies heart was 158 at 18 weeks. i am so happy you got what you wanted heather well wishes. and Oni i hope you have a little boy also. good luck to all!

My first was a boy and his heart rate was always a consistent 140, I'm not sure what this one is yet I don't see the doctor until october 11th. I'll be interested to see what the heartbeat is if they can find it. Good luck to everyone.

I was afraid of that....my friend has two boys and with her the heart beat was at a constant 140 something....I keep trying to fool myself, and say that my "son" has a really high heart rate because he is so active. I go fot my ultra sound Oct 5th, so I will let everyone know!

thank you megan. and for some reason, i think next time im going to wait to see what the sex is. because i wanted a boy soo bad and thats what i got but now that i know, its like the excitment of not knowing is over. does anyone else feel like that?

Hey Heather i'm not finding out. I've done ultrasounds and my dr
has asked me, but i said no. This is one time in life when you can be totally suprised. Although i can understand women who do want to know because it would be easier to plan for. Buying clothes and setting up the babies room.

i know exactly how you feel. i found out with both of my sons and it was kind of like, cool. now what? i already know what i am having so the excitment is gone and i was a little bummed that i didnt wait. but with this pregnancy we did not find out. i have 17 weeks left and trust me, the suspense is killing me. i cant plan or decorate how i want, but i think when the day comes and they say "its a .......!" it will be thrilling.

From everything I've read, heart rates don't tell anything. However, from talking to people, a LOT of people still seem to believe they do! Our baby's heart rate was 164 & we have yet to find out what he/she is. My husband has a 6 year old son whose heart rate was always in around 140. However, a friend of mine's was near 180 (very high I know!) and she had a boy. I'm extremely anxious to find out what we're going to have! I noticed you're 20 weeks, as I am- do you have a journal? I would love to talk to other moms-to-be that are due around the same time!

Thanks to everyone who has answered, I go to the DOctor next week (Oct 5th) so check back and i will be sure to let everyone know....the midwife at my OB office said that with alot of mother she has seen who are expecting boys, she said that experienced the "fizzies" which is where you actually feel your son peeing, lol! she said this feeling usually didn't occur to about 7-8 months. does anyone else have experience with this?

My son's heartrate was 163 the first time I heard it and it always stayed around there. My daughter's was 145 and stayed around there. With this pregnancy (It's a BOY!) his heartrate is between 160 and 170 most of the time. My cousin told me a couple of days ago that she had learned in nursing school that boys always have a higher heart rate than girls while in utero - but obviously this isn't always true according to all of the posts I just read. Oh yeah, Oni, I have never felt my boys peeing - well except for when my oldest peed on me during diaper changes lol

What should a babies heart rate be at 6weeks pregnant?

Name: SB | Date: Oct 26th, 2005 7:34 PM
My first baby was a boy and his heart beat was always 150-160. Now I'm 4 1/2 months along and I think I'm having another boy. The heart beat was 158 at 11 wks along. Last week, it was 140. I do not rely too much on the heart beat to indicate the sex of the baby!

No, my heart beat rate is normal.

actually we have 2 boys and our baby girl on the way my whole pregnanycy with my boys there heart rates were 160 and 163 from start to finish and now our daughters is in the 150's sometimes up to 160 but rarely so i dont think the whole concept of girls being higher is ALWAYS correct good luck on a boy if thats what your hopping for 3rd time was a charm for us!!

I am wondering the same thing. I have 2 boys already and both of their heart rates were in the 130-140 range. I am now pregnant with my third and the heart rate is 155 so far. We did have an ultrasound at 16 weeks but the sonographer wasn't entirely sure. She said that what she saw could either be a penis or clitoris. We go tomorrow for our 18 week sonogram. I guess we will find out then.

My son's heart rate was in the 160's until about 22 weeks and then it went down to 140 and has consistently been between 140 and 145......I don't know if that helps any.

We are expecting a son. Today we found out that my wife will need a non stress test and the hospital tomorrow. Our heart rae is 182-184. It has been in the 160's but our physician suggest that 120-180 is normal. Any news about this would help. email to [email protected]

I have two daughters already and their heart rates were in the 150-160 range and I am 19 weeks pregnant with my third daughter whose heart rate is 158, so in my experience (and I have only had girls) a high heart rate means girl. I hope this helps, I too was hoping for a son this time round, but i am happy to say I am having another healthy baby girl

WE HAVE CONFIRMED TWICE WE ARE HAVING A BOY. MY QUESTION IS HOE CONCERNED ABOUT THE HEART BEAT ABOVE 180 SHOULD WE BE?

Name: jen | Date: Nov 18th, 2005 1:54 AM
well, i honestly dont know how concerned you should be but if they want to do a non stress test, they must be a little worried. i do know that average is 120-180 and your baby is just barely above that, so hopefully it was just a temporary thing. let us know what the doc says tomorrow.

My three boys all had heart rates in the 160's and my daughter was in the 140's. I guess heart rate doesnt do much in the way of determining sex.
