Hey everyone, i have been up for the last 4 hours with Olivia...she has had both sides of my breast plus 60mls of expressed breast milk and still wants more....but when i put her back on she falls alseep straight away so i am thinking she just wants to suck on my brest for comfrot reasons rather then she is hungry....
She just wont settle tonite..its not 6.45am and i am BUGGERED lol....i dont mind being up i love her to much to worry about being sleep deprived...Olivia has a dummy but she wont suck it for long. I was thinking about making her a bottle of formula see if she would go back to sleep but i dont want to over feed her!
Got to love the learning part of being a mother...trying everything and still having no idea what to do...
Anyone got any ideas of how i can tell when she is really hungry or just wanting to be soothed? My nipples are so cracked and sore i dread feeding her at the moment...

have you tried swaddling her? or holding her close and rocking her? if you think its just a comfort issue then these things might work.

How old is she? And how much does she weigh?

Most babies cannot keep hold of a binkie for long - the second it slips their extrusion reflex pops it out. My son is 4 months and still spits it out on accident sometimes.

Olivia is 12 days old...
she is soooo tired she can hardly keep her eyes open but is fighting sleep!!!!!!!!!!
she was 8 pound 2 at birth think she would be a little more now...
this is her first really unsettled night..last few she had been sleeping 8 hours and that was with swaddling her

I don't think you need to worry about feeding her too much - at 12 days old she can't over-eat... and if she did she'd just puke and then eat again, lol. Their tummies are only so big. If she looks like she might take a bottle than give it to her. At 12 days though you are really lucky if you're not awake every 2 1/2 hours. So if she's sleeping 8 sometimes than I wouldn't be jinxing it!

Try putting the binkie in her mouth and then holding it in - or holding her against you - so she can't spit it out. She may not be spitting it out on purpose.

my parents always used to put me in the car and start the engine when I would not sleep - It would send me straight to sleep
