i went in for my regular check up today and was told that i could be induced next week since ill be 39 weeks. im not sure if its because he's giving me that option or if he thinks thats whats best. at my u/s early this week the baby measured about 6lbs and head down ready to exit. he said i was posterior what does that mean?? anyhow i guess im next on the list, the induction date is for wednesday the 13th at 4am. does anyone know what i should expect?? both of my daughters births were brought on naturaly so im not sure what all is going to happen

Posterier means everything is still up high and in the back... cervix wise I think. I was induced with my son and they started by putting a gel on my cervix. They gave me a dose every 4 hours for 2 doses and after it didn't do anything they started the pitocin drip. Why are you getting induced? If you can help it, I would hold off. I was induced at 39 weeks for medical reasons and my son wasn't ready... if your baby and body aren't ready it won't work and it will end in a c section. That's what happened to me. After 27 hours of induced labour my uterus got tired and my sons heart rate started to drop so I had a c section...

Do you mean Prosterior?... That means that the babies spine is facing your spine.. instead of the babies spine facing outwards

im not sure why hes inducing me. he said at my appt today that if i wanted he could do it next week. ive been having alot of cramping and pressure throughout my pregnancy and i know that all my paps came back bad so i dont know if thats why or if hes just giving me the option. another thing is according to my lmp i would be due the 12th but according to him he said the 21 so i was also thinking that maybe hes worried about my date being the right one it would cause me to go 2 weeks over due, im not sure. i just hope everything works out well!! my water broke on its own almost a mth early for my first daughter and for my second i was having contractions but no progress so they gave me potocin. it just now came to my attention that if im posterior and am almost 39 weeks maybe he is worried that i'll go over my date..gerrrr im not sure this is confusing and driving me nuts..i have no idea what im looking forward to and need some help.

meagan..im not sure if he said posterior or prosterior i know it was in that order but according to the u/s he is settled in my pelvis and ready to come out. he been checking me every week and ive been at 1cm he didnt say if anything changed or not as of today. his words were baby measures good, heart beat good, then checked my cervix and said your posterior (or whatever it was) would you like to be induced next week when your 39 weeks..so i dont know what the hell is going on

A posterior cervix is just one that hasn't started to soften or move forward.

I would probably wait another week you are not even 40 weeks yet and some moms have babies @41 weeks as long as the baby is o.k and you do not have medical problems. I was scheduled for induction with my first baby. my due date was 23rd was going to be induced if i did not go to labor on 23 the induction was for 26 but i refused to be induced when the day came my water broke on the 27 and i was in labor naturally(i followed the old midwives advice and took long walks) unfortunately i got stuck at 4cm i had to have pitocin... my labor was very quick started pitocin at 8am and had baby at 12pm. ofcourse i asked for an epidural @10am. it went ok.

posterior means that your baby is facing toward your back in your uterus

That's prosterior lol

Posterior is your cervix.

the opposite of posterior is anterior which means front facing
