hello everybody I am 13 years old and I am starting homeschooling for the first time. The reason that we made this decision was I could do more from lets say 9-1 then the standard full school days. I just want to know what you people think and maybe it will help me out.
Thanks Alex  ?

Im 15 and have been home since i was 12 I love it!!! i went back to reg. school last year and stayed a semester I hated regular school! Im just a homeschool person I guess I do much better work at night so i start school at like 5 and get done at 10 Im ahead of my friends who are in reg school now because i just did so much better at night and learned so much more and ive taken tests and everything and im doing really well. If you're comfortable doing homeschool then great it may take a bit to get use to it.  =

I'm a homeschooling mom. This is the first year of homeschooling for me and my 11 yr old son. We are both loving it!
He wants to be an astronaut, so he's getting to study astronomy all year, instead of just bits and pieces of what he would get in public school.
It does take a lot of effort, to get started, but once we got into the swing of things, it's going great! He has no ambition to go back to regular school. He's ahead of his peers, anyway, and he's usually done with his schoolwork by 12 - 1, so has more time to play with his playstation, or watch tv, read, whatever he wants to do, or we have time to go do things together. There are things he's learning, that he's having fun teaching ME about.
He only studies for about 4 hrs a day, and does wonderfully! He won't consider going back to public.  =

Kids need to learn socialization skills that they will simply not exxperience at home with their family.  =

absolutely.. you would have more consetrated time, and energy on one topic at a time.. one gentleman i work with has two sons whom are homeschooled, and they are more advanced than their contremporaries...and they only spend about two hours full time on one subject a day... plus music, chess and outdoor activities... plus in london we have a support network for all the people who are in homeschooling to meet once a week for group activities... ROM..SCIENCE CENTRE... CNE... CBC TOURS... ETC... GO FOR IT... you'll be way ahead ... and more readily accepted into college or university... i've asked... University of Western Ontario... theresa  =

B...are you still in public school...or now, unsocialized....lol
sorry all...couldn't help myself...geez...  =

Oh, I get it. People don't communicate with eachother in your home...or maybe they don't do things together...or, I now B, you don't do anything outside of your home with your family...or maybe you are a single person with no friends, so clueless how socialization all works...
How is socialization such a hang-up concern associated with homeschooling...as an adult...i don't run around with 30 year olds for 8 hours a day...and, well, I have wonderful people skill...and I do not owe that to what I learned in public schools...I had to unlearn many things to have better socail skill in everyday life...so, please...this whole socialization thing is not a reality...you would have to be a hermit, to raise your child unsocially...i am sure there may be one on occation...but, as a whole, this really is NOT an issue...sigh...  =

and Alex...you seem to be in the right mind-set...much more can be accomplished in less time. Remember though, you need to work toward goals, and practice self disapline in your schooling. Also, enjoy the luxery of teaching yourself about things that intrigue you...that is how we all really learn! Have fun, do the things you love, and enjoy your family and friends!  =

Believe me, u ruin your life when u r homeschooled, u lose contact with your friends, u miss out on everything happening in school, and what if u go back, u r not going to know what to expect because u were homeschooled. ever since i was homeschooled, my friends forgot about my birthday, dont put ur self in this situation, if i had a choice, i would be with my friends right now.  =

Good for you! What do you want to do in the future? You may want to fill your day with researching that stuff. Or, you could take some courses through distance learningetc. I think its up to you what you need to do. Homeschooling gives more time to languages and music study. And of course there is volenteering.  =

I think you should try it and if you like it. Stick with it. And if you dont, then you can always go to regular school. Simple! I am making the switch from regular schooling to home schooling, and i will see how i go. And if your not sure, i sugest you do the same. =]  =

Oh and also to you people who say you loose all your friends coz of home schooling. I bet you didnt even try to keep contact. Texting, msn, myspace and the phone are good ways to keep in contact. You can have friends from everywere if you just keep in contact, Just because your not with them 5 school days a week, doesnt mean they cant be friends. Its just like having friends from other schools.  =

My cousin has done home schooling her whole life and she said it really helps her. My mom said that she was going to make me be home schooled next year, but i dont want to because i am a very social person. I think that you need to think of the good things and the bad things about homeschooling, and then decide what is good for you. Have fun with that. And by the way, i am also 13, so i know what kind of decision this is for you.  =

It makes me laugh when people say that homeschooled kids need socialization! Do people really think we never go anywhere? Ha! Homeschooled kids tend to socialize well with adults and children of all ages rather than just kids that are their own age, and just as immature. When we think our kids are missing out on public school socialization, we just push them down and steal their milk money! Most people talk about homeschooled kids lacking socialization, yet have no idea what they're talking about... Just following the crowd, as usual...  =

homeschooling is the worst form of torture ever! no friends, tons of work, no freedom, being around your mom and siblings 24/7. it goes on and on. i've been homeschooled since birth, and while i concsider myself reasonably socially capible, i know tons of homeschoolers who arn't.
BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS if ur parents r cool, and homeschool the right way, being customisable, flexible, and give you some social outlets, it can rock ur face bc you will get work done faster and have more free time. it CAN be awesome. in my case it sucks tho.  =

Ive been homeschooled for about a year and it sucks
I miss all my friends and am behind because FLVS has screwed up my pace. I would give alot to be back with my friends. Parents, if you want your kids to be happy and have friends, DONT HOMECHOOL!  =

Lifestyles...If you like it GO FOR IT!! Theyre are tons of homeschooling groups out theyre so you may be social!! I'm 19 & i was homeschooled most of my life till i was 15! My parents ALWAYS gave me options to go to a regular school & i liked regular school alot! But i missed homeschooling! Theyre are TOnS of upsides for homeschooling if your a christian & if non christian its still a good thing because alot of schools dont offer what you want to study!

Dont judge homeschooling it works for different lifestyles so if it doesnt work for you that doesnt mean it wont work for any1 else!

If any1 would like to talk about it here is my email/addy

Seeing the lack of grammar and the unbelievable misuse of the English language, as well as, the inclusion of such words as 'da' and 'coz', I am amazed that any of the respondents, which lack such basic communication skills, can believe their opinions of their own current education to be worth considering. Home schooled children are notoriously better socialized, educated, and adapted for life as adults than their public school counterparts. Education is not about friends and birthdays. It is about learning what you need to know to become a well rounded individual, an adult capable of interacting with society in a meaningful and productive fashion, and being able to meet your responsibilities as a citizen in your community. Most home schooled children are able to do this at the age of 15 or so.  =

Homeschooling is totally the WAY TO GO! Trust me on this people, I absolutely loved it. And nooo, I am not some mom trying to sound like an enthused teenager. On the contrary, I'm 16 years old, in the best years of my life, and guess what! I'm in my first year of COLLEGE. Sure homeschooling has its moments where it feels rather lonely but there are so many activites for homschoolers to get involved in!

Oh and about the whole deal with the education level of the parent. Umm, if you as the parent are unable to teach school grade levels, don't you think maybe you should relearn it as well?!? I mean come on, high school does not require the knowledge of rocket science. If you can't teach basic geometry, then learn it along with your child!

For those of you homeschoolers who "have no friends," do you really think the problem is that you are being homeschooled? There are kids in public and private schools that have no friends either. I'm thinking that It just depends on the personality type.

Homeschooling can be a blast or a disaster, it's entirely up to you what you want to make it. I owe my life to homeschooling, and even though I really didn't like it at times, I now know that it was worth every minute of it. :)  =

I don't like homeschooling at all... I used to be one of the popular kids in my school. now, i'm some kid in some class with no friends, girls, or teachers who are related to me. what kind of school is that? also if u get in trouble in public school u get detention. if u get in trouble in homeschooling they take away your iPod, laptop, anything u own. my choice, don't do homeschool.  =

Hi Alex,
I currently homeschool 2 of my children. They love it and have done very well in the last 2 years since being homeschooled. My children are younger than you but your right, you will do SO much more in 4 hours than you would in a full school day at public schools. I have done some research and it shows that middle school students need 1.5 - 3.0 hrs. & high school students need 2-4 hrs. of homeschooling per day. I hope you enjoy being homeschooled and the extra time in the day will be enjoyed. Just remember to stay involved with kids your own age as well as sports, church, boy/girl scouts or whatever you enjoy.  =

Hey, Man, I'm 16 and have been homeschooled since I was 4. I love it! I have a great social life, and awesome friends. I do not have to put up with peer pressure, or deal with catty people. No bullies or backstabbers. My advice to your family is to hook up with a homeschool organization. (I'm part of WMHFA {Google these} and LINKhomeschool. I stay connected and learn so much through friends and other homeschool parents. They teach me what my mom and dad can't.) In all my years of homeschooling, I have never been put in a dangerous situation by any of them. The guys all respect you by not touching you, or even getting close to you while we're talking. I have never been pressured by them for sex, or made to feel uncomfortable. It is the best enviroment to hang out in. If you get behind in your work, you have friends to tutor you and help you out. It rocks!  =
