my son has tried benzoyl peroxide, clearasil, noxzema, oxy pads, and even proactive which hasn't done a thing for him! Now the doctor has him on prescription Erythromycin Benzoyl Peroxide Topical Gel. So far results are zits are still visible and it dries his face out really bad and makes his skin look a little red. Kids at school ask him if he is wearing make-up and the teachers have sent him to the nurse because of his red color, they told him he didn't look like he felt good! Lol Anyone know of anything good that works for teen boy's acne?

my sister had really bad acne and she tried everything your son has tried to no avail as well. but there's a spin off of proactive called acne free that they sell at wal mart, and for some reason that worked for her. she only gets one or two zits tops a week now. which is pretty good considering she's 15 and still enduring puberty.

I use Dermologica face products. They're really great for improving general skin condition. The acne is mainly caused by hormones and he'll grow out of it eventually.
The Dermologica stuff isn't cheap, but it lasts and makes the skin really nice and healthy.

I get mine from the beauty parlour place. You can't buy it in the chemists. Do a Google search for 'Dermologica' and see if they give any details of where it's sold. They make really good products - my skin is 100% better from how it used to be. Their products don't contain any cheap and nasty chemicals which irritate the skin.

I pay around £30 for my bottle of skin wash and it lasts about 8 - 10 weeks. I also buy a face mask, powder exfoliant and foundation.

It's great stuff - try to find some!

You know, oddly for as old as I am, I still have the same kind of problem. When I went to the dermatologists 3 years ago, he prescribed me 250mg of Tetracycline which worked great. It cleared all the pussy pimples that were popping out. Sorry, I know it sounds gross. Now, after the birth of my daughter, my skin is flairing up again. Doc prescribed me the same medicine so I'm hoping it works. The dematologist said that I had an infection inside my body that was causing my face to break like it did. I forget what they actually called it. I know alot of my problems is from hormones but how can you control it? I've been using proactive and it doesn't seem to help one bit. I have my daughter and son using it but it doesn't seem to be helping them either. I did try the Wal-mart brand but that didn't help either. I guess my skin is just really sensitive. I like atomic snowflakes suggestions and might try getting some of that. Heck, I've used Neutrogina and Mary Kay cleasing stuff, still doesn't help. I've always had this problem since I was 23. Sometimes, things clear up good and other times they are at their worst. I hate it because you can't cover it up which end up irritating it more.

To Atomic Snowflake---Does the Dermologica products make your pores smaller? Does these products clear up all the redness and imperfections left from the acne? I'm curious, I would love to have porcelin looking skin but I think in my case, it's impossible.

YES it does :-D.....my pores are a lot smaller and my skin clearer. It won't clear deep scarring caused by acne, but the general skin condition improves a lot.
I started using it a few weeks before I got married. My skin before was very oily with blackheads and enlarged pores. I was really fed up and went to the beauty treatment place after a work colleague recommended Dermologica. I had a Dermologica facial and then bought some of the products. I wasn't really expecting it to make much difference, but was really happy when my skin started to improve. By the time I got married I actually looked nice *LOL*

The products are totally unscented with no harsh chemicals and have lots of plant/herbal extracts in. There's loads of different products for face, nails, hands etc. but I only buy about 4 things - I don't have time to do much beauty stuff at home because of the kids *LOL*

The rice powder product is nice - makes your skin nice and smooth and the lavender spray calms down redness and stuff.

Have a look on the internet about it. I don't know the website name, but just type in 'Dermologica'.......Posh Spice uses it as well *LOL* if that's any help *LOL*

Hey atomic snowflake--Thanks alot for the info. I'm going to check it out. I think my skin is just plain sensitive and this may be what I need. I'll look into it and possibly give it a try. Hopefully, it will work and if it does, I'll have my daughter use it too. Granted, she's only 12 but her homones are flowing and her skin is breaking out, too. I'll be she's as sensitive as me. She is using the proactive and she says it's working. I'm going to see if her skin improves in about a month and if it doesn't maybe I'll switch her. I just don't want her to grow older with the same kind of trouble I've had. Thanks again. I really do appreicate your input.

That's okay. Let me know how you get on.

It has made an enormous difference to my confidence now that my skin is better. The open pores problem and blackheads was really miserable. I tried everything in the chemists, but the products were crap.

I use the Special Cleansing Gel - doesn't dry out the skin, but gets rid of oil.
Daily Microfoliant - ricey powdery stuff which smooths the skin
something great.
Number 2 Foundation
and
Skin Refining Masque to control oil - I only use this once a week.

You only need to use a little of the products at a time so they last quite a while :-)

Why dont you teach him the value of cleanliness, not to touch his face when he has dirty hands or greasy hands, keep ya nails clean and also drink water water water. if that dont work use oxy face wash you put it on cotton woll and rub it against the spot you can see the dirt come off, they should within a few days

i used to have really bad acne! I now use a product called 'blemishless' i get it off of a website called ScrubsUK, it really has worked for me, this is the only product ive found that gets rid of my acne & doesnt contain benzoyl peroxide which made my skin all raw and flaky. This one is quite soft on the skin. Hope this has helped !
