Do not know how old you are, but I do believe things are getting better for down syndrome children. I had one twenty years ago.,

I have had a down syndrome baby and all other tests were negative, the amino was very accurate. It is up to you and your spouse, things are better than ever for a down syndrome baby but it is a tough road.

I'm a young mother in the mid-20's. My son who's 6-month old has down syndrome. I didn't find out he had downs until after he was born. He's my first child. My son was born 3 weeks early and I had to have an emergency c-section because he was in breech throughout my pregnancy, and wasn't gaining enough weight inside of me. Noah has no health problems. I thank God everyday for my Little Noah.

My daughter was born with Down Syndrome when I was 17 years old, I didnt have any reason to suspect I was having a Downs baby, therefore no tests were performed until after she was born.

My son is almost 14 months old and I found out he had Down Syndrome when I was pregnant through a routine ultrasound. They found an omphalecele (part of the intestine was out of his body). They sent me to a perinatologist who did a high level ultrasound and told my husband and I that out baby was to have Trisomy 18 syndrome. I did not believe him and told him he was wrong and had an amniocentesis. The results come back Trisomy 21. He was wrong. I am glad that we did't listen to his advice to abort our baby. I couln't picture my life without him and either could his three older sisters!

We found out our oldest son has mosaic downs syndrome when he was 5 1/2 years old. He's been in the special needs programs since he was 18 months but no one ever did the genetics test because he does not have any of the typical facial features common with DS. After changing doctors, my wife explained all his issues and they recommended the tests.

And please, I read and hear this so often, you do not have a downs syndrome child or a downs baby, you have a child that has downs. Why do we refer to someone with downs as a "downs baby" but don't refer to someone with allergies as an "allergy baby" or someone with cancer as a "cancer baby". Let's not put them in a different "baby" category, they are babies with a diagnosis.

hi there, i have a 2 yr old boy with down syndrome, i was 19 at the time of his birth and his father was 20, we didnt have the tests as we were living in ireland and they dno offer this. we were told it was practicly impossible for this to happen 2 us given we were both so young.
can i just mention many people take it the wrong way when ppl say down syndrome child, they are children WITH down syndrome.

I found out that my first son Angel had down syndrome after he was born. I gave birth at 7:32 at night, then early the next morning about 4:00 they woke me up to tell me that he was having some problems. They transfered him to a different hospital where they did the trisomy 21 test. The test later came back positive. I hope that in your paper you will not only educate, but encourage mothers who know they are having a baby with down syndrome to carefully consider there options. It is my understanding that the abortion rate for mothers who are having down syndrome babies is nearly 90%. Speaking from my own experience, I would have probably terminated my pregnancy if I had known about the down syndrome. My feelings about down syndrome where based on stereotypes, and believing that my son would have no hope. I am so glad that I didn't know about the down syndrome before he was born! He is such a wonderful and special little boy! I was wrong about down syndrome before. Angel has a world of hope, and he has changed my life so much that I could never imagine my life without him. My point is that women who know that there baby is going to be born having down syndrome should at least consider the facts. I am all for a womans right to choose, but informed decisions are best.

I found out when I was 18 weeks gestation. I went through a quad screen and it gave me a 1 in 5 chance then I verified it with an amniocentesis

I recommend having an amnio done we have 4 children and with our 4th we were in a high risk catagory i was very scared but the doctors were amazing and the procedure didnt hurt to much. doctors perform amnios all the time so to me i knew i would be in good hands. I dont think there is a high percent of miscariage.in saying this i think you and your partner should ask yourself what if the baby has down syndrome would you go ahead with the pregnancy and if so then there is no need to do an amnio.

Hello,
My name is Brittany Moran. I am a direct support worker as well as a college student. I am currently taking my second year of the Disability and Community Support Program, at Red River College in Winnipeg, MB. I am required to write a 15 page research paper of a topic of your choice. I choose to write about the affects of amniocentesis on children with who are living with a diagnosis of Down syndrome and the pressures parents may feel to terminate pregnancies that test positive from trisomy 21. If you have any information about this topic area, or know where I could locate information, I would be very grateful. I would appreciate any type of information you would be willing to send me about Down syndrome and amniocentesis.
Thank you:
Brittany Moran

I am a parent of a child who has downsyndrome. Iam 29 years old and found out i was having twins. I went to all the scans and had the test which came back low risk for both babies. They where 5 weeks prem when i gave birth emily came out first weighing 4ib7oz she needed a little oxg, then joseph came out weighing 4ib 9 oz he got rushed off as he had not sugur in his body so they had to set him up on a drip. Three days later the nurse came in and asked us to go the parent room, when we got there, there was a doctor waiting for us. She asked us if we noticed anythink different about emily to joseph, gary said her eyes are wider then joseph. That is when she said we think emily has got downsyndrome but we have to run more test, we had to wait a week tthen the doctor came in and told us the results have came back and she is.. Since then she had open heart surguery at 4 months old and has had 7 operations since. They are 4 and have just started school with joseph she can walk with help but has no speach she is using sign laguage. I know people say they are special, they are i would not change her for the world. I hope this has help if u need anymore my email address is [email protected]

I must say im so enlightened to hear all the storys of you great mothers and how you describe the love you have for your children with down's, i am a mother of a 3 year old boy with downs and i didnt find out till after he was born, he was a premie and was in an incubator for about a month, we had a really tough time with him in the hospital, all day and night next to him, praying, and just hoping to god he will be ok, 3 years later our miracle baby is doing great!! he has no heart problems or kidney problems, his stage is mild, although he doesnt talk much yet, the way he expresses himself and the acts he does you can tell what he is trying to say, it is incredible how he expresses himself, not to mention what a happy baby he is, i would not have wanted to have him any other way and i wouldnt change him for the world, he wakes up with a smile and goes to bed with a smile, i cant remember the last time he really cried or had a tantrum, his behavior is great!!! hes in school already and is doing great i can continue on with the joy he brings to the family, im so happy and proud of all you mothers out there that coup and except your children just how they are, keep up the good work, i know its hard but that smile n happiness is worth it all!!
