i have a 15 year old son with ds i found out by amnio when i was 20 and life with him has been an amazing journey i wouldnt change a thing his 3 sisters are all "normal" and they love him for all of you who think its funny to make fun of these kids maybe you should remember that you will never know unconditional love and that one day you will have to answer for your cruelties i hope then someone has more compassion and empathy than you do

My name is Robin, my son was born 10-22-10 and has been diagnosed with down syndrome. I elected not to have the amnio, I felt that whatever God has given me is a blessing. My son was born at 32 weeks, 3lbs. 2oz.. He showed characteristics of downs, slanted eyes, indent on the palm of his hand, facial features. At first I did not want to claim it as the blood test had not been back yet. It did indeed confirm positive for downs. I am still getting use to the fact that my child has downs. I never expected this, but he is absolutely beautiful and I love him to death. There is anything I wouldn't do for this little guy. Good luck with your paper! Any questions, my email is [email protected]

Hi I would love to share our story. My daughter was born on Oct. 9th 1997. I was told when after a simple blood test that I would need to have a amnio done ( I was only 20 years old and I let them tell me, I never asked questions ) The amnio came back that she would have Downs and the message was givin via phone ( they also told me the sex of the baby without me asking) The one thing I hope people know and come to understand is that you do not have to be over 40 to have a child with Downs . My beautiful girl was born when I was 21.

I finally realized my child had downs when he was around ten and he still piddled his pants in public. Oh it was so embarrassing and I'd always tried to tell people he was just different. Now he's 15, and still urinates in his pants in public places. The last time I took him to Wal-Mart to buy adult diapers he defecated and proceeded to throw excrement at this poor puerto rican girl. He then dropped his pants and ran around the building with a massive erection. I swear he gets it from his deadbeat father! But as I was saying... we found out our kid was a tard after he was born.

Sadly after a CVS test performed last week, we received the news on Friday evening 28/1/11 that are baby has Downs Syndrome. We are not young parents and the news has rocked our world. We already are in love with our tiny baby so abortion is not an option. We are very scared of what the future holds in July 2011.We live each day the best we can at present. We ourselves would so appreciate peoples experiences and would love to find other parents in our situation.Heartbroken and shocked from Devon..xxxx....donna_chap

Donna and Steve
don't be scared or sad. I had a daughter with down syndrome and sadly she died at 2 weeks old from a burst bowel due to hairssprung diease. I worried for her future too but now I just wish she had had one. It is the best gift in the world. I regret every feeling dissapointed. She is my special angel. X

Hi there, my husband and I found out our daughter had down sundrome when she was born. My pregnancy was excellant and nothing was ever picked up in the scans. I dont think they really thought to look very hard because of my age, 22.

My son is now 35 years old, him being my first born no testing was available. If given the choice I would have followed in the same footsteps that I have followed today. I do know that it becomes more difficult to deal with the mood changes and degenerative disorders as they age as with ourself but at a more rapid acceleration.

hi I'm a mother of a son with ds I found out through amnio at first it was just so devastating I was in such disbelief, he is now 3months I love him so much. I still fear the future as well as hope for the best.

I am the mother of a 13 year old daughter who, by the way has down syndrome. I was informed initially at about 4 months into my pregnancy that one of my 16 week tests (blood work) came back "funny" This in no way confirmed a down syndrome diagnosis, but my ob/gyn immediately asked me when I wanted to schedule my abortion. After regaining my composure (and finding a new Dr.) I continued through my pregnancy without knowing if my child would be fine or be born with trisomy 21. I did not have an amnio. due to the fact that I would continue with the pregnancy regardless of the outcome.
I found out the day she was born. She is the light of my life and has changed me forever. What a joy!

I found out that my daughter has Down Syndrome at about 20 weeks after having amniocentesis at 18 weeks. I had a "soft" marker at my first ultrasound which was "borderline echogenic bowel". This and because my age was 36 at the time of conception caused them to recommend amniocentesis. The genetic counselor called me with the results and began discussing all my options with me, including termination. I was very upset and I had to get off the phone but I told her that termination was not an option.

I am a mother of a seven year son that has partial trisomy 11.. I am looking for a support group and somewhere to turn to help understand how other mothers deal with the out bursts due to expressive language disorder. Does anyone have any info on where I could look???

During my 30th week I was watching the tv show Birth Day in this episode a african american woman who was 38 yrs old had just given birth to a baby boy with down syndrome. Her background was parallel to mine with the exception of race. She had an 8 yr old daughter ,her age and the baby being a boy. All of a sudden I heard this voice that told me to pay attetion that this was my story to be. The next month was filled with all kinds of thoughts. I never did an amnio however i did the alpha fetal protein test and that came back normal. Ultrasounds were good he was a big baby boy. My last ultrasound I ask the tech if she could see anything different she said no. I knew that my gut was telling me different. He was born a healthy 9 lb baby although at first glance of his beautiful face I saw he had down syndrome ..so I guess the universe had prepared me in away that the doctor had not. He came into this world with none of the typical defects and is still the most outstanding character i have and will know.
