hi carrisa , i just finished social studies in college , i studied downs syndrome , and i also care for a downs child.

downs syndrome occurs because of an extra cromosome , and when your baby is born you will notice the following :

1. semien crease (single crease across palm)

2. eyes and noes slant upwards.

3.downs babys are alot floppyer than babys who are not downs

4.a finger is shorter

the child i care for was born to his mam when she was in her 20's too, im not sure how she found it at first but i know her and her son since her son was about 1yr old, and he is doing fantastic.
he is now 12 years old and attends a mainstream school (with a helper) and has many friends , he also plays football and gos to drama and dancing classes.

having a downs baby sure may be harder than a baby without downs , but trust me your baby will thrive and do well as long as he or she has your love and support through life.

and im sure if you know someone with downs you'll see how the syndrome affects them , if you dont know anyone with the syndrome why not google places near you that cater for people with downs and volunteer to become aware of the needs ect and then you'll feel more confident and comfortable ??

i know how it feels when you know your babys "different" , im 18 and just found out my 7week old is deaf , and while its sad i know she'll be fine , and me and her daddy will still treat her the same way we would if she was not deaf ...

how do you feel bout having a downs baby??
