Bree-there is the post we've been waiting for! I'm so happy for you! Please post more when you have time.
Gina-happy to hear your news too. What a big load off your mind. ↑ |
| Breee...yeah! I'm so happy for you....I pray that all goes well for me on Monday the 24th... ↑ |
Hi everyone, I've been reading for a while but not yet posted. At my 20 wk u/s they saw an echo focus and kidney dilation on one side. My serum screen had been great so that helped, but I was and am still extermely worried. On a 28 wk u/s the echo focus was still there and BOTH kidneys were dilated which was discouraging, but I just had a 34 wk u/s and the kidneys were normal!! Of course I'm relieved about not having to have that followed up BUT I know the fact that it cleared up means nothing with respect to Down Syndrome risk. Has anyone else had two soft markers show up recently??? I wouldn't have been nearly as worried if it were ONE, and we declined amnio though now I wish I had the amnio, but I've gone this long......
The latest issue (in my mind) is that my amniotic fluid level is high which can be also associated with Down Syndrome (though other causes as well). It's not high enough that they've diagnosed me of anything but I've read so much on the internet. Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I'm due mid April and am having a boy. Anyone else have high fluid levels and two markers?? I'm getting close and freaking out!! ↑ |
bree- AWSOME!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! KISS YOUR BABY BOY FOR ME!!!!
RT- you are in my prayers, i am sure you will have the same outcome as bree and i have had *blessings* ↑ |
| Susan, Thanks for your note. And congrats to Bree. I have to have a c-section because I have already had 3 of them, but my doctor will alllow me to go into labor and then do the surgery. I am hoping for the 4th of July! Anyone have any good boy names? I am in Ventura california by the way. where is anyone else from? ↑ |
| This site has been very comforting to both my husband and myself. My 19 week ultrasound indicated that there were 2 EIF's in the left ventrice (otherwise known as the white/bright spots) and a 2 vein cord missing the left artery. We go in tomorrow for our level II ultrasound. I will be 21 weeks. Of course ds was mentioned and we are terrified. Has anyone had both the EIF's and the 2 vein cord? We would appreciate any insight. Thanks ↑ |
Hello All
We just had our 19 week ultrasound and it came out with baby has pylectasis. AFP results suggest that there is 1/10000 DS. We are going to level II ultrasound today. We are afraid. Could anyone shed light on this for us please ↑ |
| Sherri-so sorry you have to go through this. There are not many of us on this forum with the experience of EIF and a 2 vessel cord, but I did find another helpful website called www.choroidplexuscyst.org. There are many stories of peoples' babies with many different combinations of soft markers on this site. Just try searching "umbilical cord EIF" or something like that. I did find a post from at least one woman with a story similar to yours and she had a good outcome. But I think that if you haven't talked to a genetics counselor at this point or had blood testing done, it would be helpful to consider it now. The genetic counselor could put your risk into better perspective than any of us can on here. But please keep us posted and I will be thinking of you as well. ↑ |
| congrats bree ... so happy to hear your baby boy is doing good ... gives me hope for my baby boy ... to all the mothers on this site god bless you all and protect each and every baby :) ↑ |
| My blood test results are in after my NT scan and our chances of this new one having DS is 1/8000 something. YAY! So now I am just waiting for our 20 week ultrasound. ↑ |
| Just wanted to give everyone an update. My baby boy was born on March 16th perfect and healthy! No signs of ds at all. To give a recap, at 20 weeks he had dilated kidneys and a bright spot on the heart. Kidneys are still slightly dilated and the heart is fine. We'll probably go in for a follow up ultrasound to make sure things continue to improve. I have to say that I regret all the worrying my husband and I did. It ruined the experience for us. I encourage everyone to stay positive. Good luck to everyone! ↑ |
| Chrissy - Congratulations on your healthy baby! Thank you so much for posting that update, my baby has the same two and it was so positive to read your post! ↑ |
Good news from my follow up US today. The US was scheduled early at 31 weeks rather than 32 because I was measuring big at my last OB visit (measured 33 cm at 30 weeks). Anyway, to recap my baby's kidneys at 20 weeks were Left 5.0 mm and Right 3.5 mm ( I declined amnio, I am 35), a follow up US at 24 weeks (again because apparently I am "big") showed L 5.9 and R 4.3. Today at almost 31 weeks the L is 4.9 and the right is 4.8. Any measurement under 7.0 mm at 32 weeks is considered normal. Of course I understand the DS risk still exists, but I'm putting it out of my mind at this point. I still think that I will have another US done on his kidneys after he is born...but that's that neurotic new mom in me.
My uterus size and amniotic fluid are normal and the baby is 68th percentile for size. I guess I'm just going to always measure big. And the 3D pictures of his face are beautiful...I don't know how such a precious baby can cause his mom so much anxiety. For any of you anxiously waiting your due date like I am to be reassured all is "normal", I highly recommend asking for a 3D picture at one of your follow up ultrasounds. And to think that I had been the biggest skeptic about these "unnecessary" images beforehand.
EVMO-what did you mean about your fluid measuring high but not enough to diagnose you? Does that mean normal? You sound like me with the same worries about measuring big due to amniotic fluid etc. I asked the perinatologist today about why babies with DS could have excess amniotic fluid. One reason would be a disconnect between the esophagus and stomach so they couldn't swallow fluid, so if they saw a normal stomach bubble and esophagus at your US I would think that's reassuring. The other reason she told me is poor tone/movement problems. I don't really understand that relationship but I didn't question it further. Anyway, I'm not an expert here, but when I thought I had too much fluid I reassured myself by remembering that the stomach had looked normal. You may want to discuss it futher with your OB.
Crissy-congratulations on your little one too. I love hearing all of these great outcomes. ↑ |
Susan-
Thanks for your comments. I am actually not measuring big or small, but pretty average. The baby is in the 60th percentile. BUT my fluid is at the high end of normal or the low end of high but right at the cutoff. Of course I wouln't worry about that, but because of this other stuff I have been reading way too much online and did read that high fluid can be associated with babies with problems. My OB said that she is not worried about it and that so long as he's moving a lot she wouldn't be worried about his tone, etc. Also she said that they didn't see any palate/stomach issues so not to worry about the swallowing issue. Anyway....Could you tell me whether you can actually see facial features well enough to get any idea about physical characteristics of DS on a 3-D ultrasound? I would live to see the baby's face either way, but I have been wondering about that. By the way, Susan, congrats that the dilation is back to normal. Ours was too and it's a relief - and for other moms- our dilation issue got worse before it got better, so maybe that can ease some fears that it won't improve! ↑ |
| Well I had my 2nd u/s (at 30 weeks) and the news is "so-so". The dialation went up on the right side and down on the left. I haven't had a chance to speak with my doc yet, she is out of the office this week. Does anyone know what the next steps are? Hope everyone is doing great! ↑ |
Evmo
No, I don't think that there are really any definite features on a 3D US of the face that is going to tell you one way or the other, I could speculate of course, but that is not scientifically proven or consistent among US. And believe me, I've searched it on the internet. It was just such a joy to see a beautiful and normal little face after all of the worry. I think sometimes with all of the worry about problems I've forgotten about the great things that are going on in there. Despite my worry about any genetic problems, there is a beautiful little developing baby inside.
Jolene-it all depends on the actual measurements at this point. After 30 weeks, below 7 mm is considered normal. From what I recall, your measurements were not too bad to begin with (5 mm?), so going up on one side might still be normal at this point.
I'm still going to follow up with an US postnatally. I have a visit with my OB this week where I'm going to ask if I should also have one more around 36 weeks or so, but I think that she may think this is overkill since it probably wouldn't change management at this point. ↑ |
Jolene - I don't know for sure what the next steps are, but I'll just tell you what we did. I had my second ultrasound at 29? weeks I think and both kidneys were dilated (only one was before) so I was pretty discouraged by that. They said then to come back any time after 32 wks I think, and we decided to go LATER rather than sooner. I know we were anxious to find out but at the same time, I felt like I wanted to give it some time to clear up if it were going to, and we couldn't do anything about it anyway, and so we went at about 34 weeks. Both kidneys were normal at that point.
Susan- could you post on what your docs say about follow up from this point when you find out? ↑ |
Oops, in my post above, I meant 7 mm is normal anytime after 32 weeks rather than 30 weeks. Just wanted to clarify.
I went in at 31 weeks, which is why I was being (probably overly) neurotic about a repeat US after 32 weeks. I see my OB friday. ↑ |
| Hi everyone! I have a couple minutes now to post. Just to quickly recap at 20 weeks my baby boy showed mild dilation. we had follow up US once a month and the dilation was always there but always very mild. My baby was born march 11 and is very healthy. He was 8 lb. 9 oz. 22 in. I worried so much during my pregnancy as I know so many of you have too. Like so many others have said I wish I would have enjoyed my pregnancy more than I did. Wednesday Jack has an ultrasound to check for dilation. At this point I am not worried since he has been peeing LOTS. I will post after the ultrasound. Blessings to everyone! ↑ |
| RT-we're waiting to here from you next! I hope you are both doing well. ↑ |
hi my name is cassandra please email me i know of a supplement that is 100% safe that has unbelievable things....please at least send me an email and you can check it out... angelsfaith@saferforyourhome.com
please do it for your baby..... ↑ |
Bree Congrats- I looked for your post because I knew you had to have had the baby already. YES PRAISE THE LORD... Thank you God for healthy babies. I pray for all you ladies I was there not too long ago with my baby having dialated kidneys, he was born Dec 17th and he is GORGEOUS!!!!
Pray for serenity and God will grant it. Oh and STOP reading the internet it drove me crazy. :) ↑ |
| Baby Rachel has arrived. She is healthy and very sweet! She was 6 lbs. and 14 ozs. Thank God we did not do the version b/c her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck three times. The c-section went great and was much easier than I thought. So far so good. I have to say that the night before the csection was horrible b/c I could not stop crying out of fear of not knowing what to expect. I was very scared as I'm sure many of you are. I will keep all of you in our prayers that all our babies are healthy and to give you the peace you need to get through this. We have all been there and know how tough this is. Please know you are all in our thoughts. Thanks for everyones kind words and support. best of luck to everyone...I'll check back often to see how everyone is doing. ↑ |
RT and Bree -
Congrats to both of you, that's wonderful news for you!!! I have been reading but not posting on here for a few months and I am in my last month so I'm getting anxious - it's so encouraging to read your positive outcomes. Thanks!! ↑ |
| i am 34 weeks pregnant and ultrasound reveals a mild bilateral renal pelviectasis measuring right 0.35cm and left 0.36cm what does that means? ↑ |
| I just had an u/s done today (I am 17 weeks) and the results of my afp screening. The afp screening was normal. I am 37. But the baby (girl) has pyelectasis. 3.1mm and 4 mm. I am brand new to this board so I guess I just want some more info. I am too scared to get an amnio . I did notice that most of you are at least 20 weeks. I am only 17 weeks pregnant does this make any difference and most of you have boys also. Any comments to reassure me would be great thank you!!!! ↑ |
Hi Amy C,
I just had a baby girl 2 weeks ago. Her measurements were 3.5 and 3.6 at 18 weeks. I did not do any type of testing. The Dr. said it was borderline to 4.0 which is the usual marker for the kidney issue. She was born very healthy and the kidneys resolved themselves by her 32 week ultrasound. I know how scary it is and how anxious it makes you. I went through it all as we all shared on this board. Almost every Dr. I saw said it usually resolves by itself and not to worry (easier said than done). Since your AFP was normal you should be reassured that all is well. We will keep you and everyone in our prayers and thougths....I know how hard this is... ↑ |
HI all, not much new to post here but this board has been pretty quiet so here goes...I've had 2 OB visits since my last post and we don't even talk about the kidney issue anymore. My little one will get a follow up US sometime within the first 2 weeks after birth, though I think I'm going to ask for sooner rather than later. My newest issue has been BH contractions pretty much consistent since 28 weeks. I feel much better now that I've almost made it to 34 w. I'm still measuring larger than dates, and my OB tries to reassure my by telling me it's due to "generous fluid". Of course that doesn't make me feel any better. On US my fluid is within normal range but above the average index of 15ish, so I wish she wouldn't keep telling me that.
Evmo-any updates...you are about 38 weeks at this point right? I'm waiting to here any news from you next!
RT-congratulations on baby Rachel. A friend of mine who's 32 weeks was just told her baby is breech. She was asking about the external version and I shared your story with her. I'm glad everything worked out well for you both. Personally, at this point, I wouldn't care if this baby had to come out my eyeballs, I just want him here safely and term.
Jolene-any updates after talking to your OB?
Hang in there everyone. Welcome to the new moms to this board. ↑ |
Hi Susan, Hi all,
I am just counting down now! Yup - 38 weeks! The baby was in transverse breach until about 37 weeks and he finally is head down, thank goodness, one less thing to worry about.
As far as your friend - tell her to hang in there, I never thought he would turn and he did. I read all kinds of stuff on how to get him to turn but my OB said it was all BS except for crawling around on all fours maybe could help, maybe not. So I did that about once a day, just for a few minutes, even though I felt ridiculous, but I had been sitting at a desk for a good part of every day, so I thought if he was stuck I should give him a chance to have a little room. I did this when it was obvious he was awake and really active. I also had my husband get way down under my stomach and talk to him from there! I know it sounds crazy but I read that it can help and it sort of made sense to me that he could gravitate toward a familiar voice....
I also wanted to share that my OB told me that she would worry more about my fluid "dropping off" rather than being at a high level because that would mean the baby would come preterm which happens with chromosomal issues, don't know if that makes you feel any better. If you remember, my fluid was on the cutoff of "high" level and she wasn't worried about it (not that I wasn't, though). Anyway, I have had a TON of BH as well starting early too which I think is kind of crazy because this is my second baby and I only had a few randomly at the end last time. I was really uncomfortable with them while the baby was transverse, but now I just have that baby heavy on my bladder discomfort and am not sleeping well.
I wish I could say that my excitement wasn't dampened a bit by not knowing what's gonna happen because of the markers, but being so busy trying to get a lot done before the big day has helped. ↑ |
| I have my second ultrasound tuesday ... was wondering if you could keep my babyboy and i in your prayers i am now 34 weeks ... thanks a bunch ↑ |
Hi Kelly-
I hope everything went well with your ultrasound today. Looking back at your posts, you first saw an enlarged kidney at 27 weeks? Is it even considered a soft marker if it shows up at 27 w but not at 20 w? I didn't think so. Regardless, I hope all is back to normal at this point so that you have no further worries. Keep us posted. ↑ |
