Just got my results from the amniocentesis back. The baby is 100% normal. Thank God- my prayers have been answered!!
The spot on the heart will never go away....it's very common, and does not pose any health risks.
As far as the Pyelectasis, I will just have to wait and see if it resolves itself while in the womb. It could be caused by a number of things. If it doesn't go away, the baby will have some ultrasounds after birth and possibly undergo surgery.
I'm just so thankful that the baby is alright. And I'm so glad I got an amniocentesis. Now I can relax and enjoy my pregnancy! ↑ |
| Ally (armywife), I am so happy for you! You must be so relieved! I will be 37 weeks on Thurs so not too much longer. We didn't have any of the blood work/screening because we never in a million years thought there would be anything wrong. It gives me hope that since your baby is fine with two markers that mine will be too! Thank you so much for updating! ↑ |

H i girl,
im 29 weeks pregnant and i. am 38 old , and i have an incompetent cervix. i decreased my activity since i found out that im expecting, and also a cerclage. it is a very hard pregnancy. my US was fine at 20 weeks however my blood work was just limit borderline not negatif but not positive. at 24 weeks she found one soft marker enlargement of right ventricul in brain which was also borderline all others were normal.
at 29 weeks the brain measurement still borderline but she found an enlargement on kidney which turn out to be a nother soft marker for down syndrome. she suggested the amnio but i declined it .. too much stress......
to be honest , i did not enjoy this pregnancy at all. i was afraid to lose the baby in the begining because im low progesterone , then the cervix problem . then the DS now.
does anyone had 2 soft markers and end up with a healthy baby...
i never thought the pregnancy could be that though....
thanks and god bless you all ↑ |
Angela (or anyone else) - you said you read this entire blog. I havent read the entire blog, but pretty close. Have you come across any cases where the baby did have DS and the only market was Pyelectasis? I saw one post from a person named Natalie from 2005 but havent seen anything else.
By the way, the person named Natalie never posted again.
Thanks,
Steve ↑ |
@stevek
i ve read this whole blog 100 times in my pregy and only two ppl with this only pyelectasis marker had down syndrome positive but remaining babies r healthy. ↑ |
Hello SteveK!
Steve, I came across only one posting. I do not remember the name, but in that posting woman had mentiond that she had only one marker for DS. She had an amnio and lost the baby. But amnio results showed later that the baby did have DS. ↑ |
Thanks Sarah Sh and Angela.

| What was supposed to be a happy day to find out the sex of my child turned to make the rest of my pregnancy stressful. This was at 20 weeks I was told that my unborn son had a cyst above the bladder around the bowels and that it was 1.6 centimeters in diameter. The perinatologist ordered me to have a ultrasound every 3 weeks until delivery then the baby would have an MRI or CATscan after delivery well my obstetrician hasnt ordered one since that date and now im 33 weeks pregnant well i cant find another OB because medicaid wont pay for it i dont know where to turn it seems and feels like my OB dont care what the perinatologist says . he is the type of dr. that tells me if i want to bark orders go to med school., what do i do and whats wrong with my unborn son? ↑ |
| miranda, if you have time, go through all chat, I had seen a couple of postings about the cysts there. I just can't recall where and who did the postings. Try to contact those ladies, may be they can help you with more info. Good luck! ↑ |
| i was just told on thursday that my son has a pyelectasis n i wanted to know what are the syptoms of have a down syndrome baby while being pregnant ↑ |
| Hello Everyone, Just wanted to share another positive outcome! I gave birth to a healthy and beautiful 9 lb. baby girl on July 6th. I was told at my 19 week ultrasound that she had pyelectasis on the right kidney. I worried myself SICK for the next 21 weeks and even thought about it through my labor and delivery. I did not have an amnio and first trimester screening results were 1:265 risk of DS. I did not enjoy my pregnancy like I wished I had. Please try not to worry like I did and do not give in to the internet. I think that the pyelectasis is blown way out of proportion with the link to DS, especially in isolation. Please feel free to ask me any questions, I would be happy to answer. ↑ |
| my name is shar-da and i just found out at 21 weeks my son shaki has pyelectasis and a spot in his heart and my conclusier said it could be a sign of ds but i took a test at 19 weeks and it came back normal so i had a doc appointment that same day and my doc told me not worry and then she ask me do i wanted to take the amino and i told her no i didnt so now i have to wait until my next ultrasound to see how it goes with his kidney and the spot but i so scared n worried ↑ |
Hi all,
A few minutes back, I recieved call from my doc telling me tht my baby has kidney dilation ( week 18 US) but told me not to worry and din't suggest to reschedule the visit. I was so worried and felt literally shaky. My husband is doing double shift today so didn't want to worry him too. I ended up looking on net and found this forum. After reading u all,I am still a little worried but not horrible upset. my next visit is scheduled for 28th august.Jus wan to thank u all for being there. ↑ |
| hi everybody, I just wanna share my story with you. I did the quad screening test at week 16 that came positive with 1:242 for down syndrome so the doctor suggest to wait until the ultrasound and have a decision whether to do an amnio or not. at week 19 the us showed a mild Pyelectasis in my son s kidnies which is soft marker for ds. I was scared and decided to do the amnio , i ve just got a call from the genetic counsoler telling me that everything is normal my baby doesn t have ds. ↑ |
| hi my megan was born with an enlarged kidney and 2 half kidneys shes doing great if its only a blocked it will be easily fixed it could be some sort of refuex its quite common ↑ |
| im at about 23 wks pg and my doc just told me i that my baby boy has borderline Pyelectasis, I've had 2 blood test screening for any abnormalities and everything has came out fine, I was very worried about the whole thing on the ultrasound, I read many things online that actually calmed me down, I hear it usually resolves itself in the womb. ↑ |
since week 21 we knew that our baby had renal pyelectasis, we were so much worried and doctor requested a new ultrasound on week 36. the ultrasound showed a diameter of 13mm which was above normal
after our daughter was born she was on trimethoprime from day 1. an ultrasound 3 days after birth showed the same diameter, after 2 weeks it was 11 mm , then after 1 month of birth they could see it normal . now she's 6 weeks old and we stopped the medication today. ↑ |
| Hi...am 19 years old and am 21 weeks. Am having my first baby. Reading all this different storys and different stuff from everyone have make me more positive. My baby have a clubbed foot and he also have pyelectasis...wich can be Down Syndrome, Trisomy 18 or Trisomy 13. The doctor told me that when they see the clubb foot and the kidney convine it can be something else like down syndrome or trisomy 18, 13. Am very scare. Everyday I wake up worry and feeling my little angel move make me cry because all I want is him to be healthy a really healthy boy. If any one have the same problem and it turn to be nothing I be glad to listen positive things. Am trying to stay positive I live everything in god hands. I just very worry as a mother to be I want my baby to be healthy and am scare and worry after the doctor told me that bu the doctor told me that sometimes babys born fine and I don't want to have a amnio and risk my pregnancy. If anyone have something similar please let me know how it when ↑ |
| Hello everyone.. I am 26 weeks pregnant. In week 20 they found bilateral pielactacis I think 10 mm in each side. And 5 weeks later it has grown to 17 mm... I did the first trimester scan nuchal translucency was 1.8 and my quad screen was negative 1/5000 for DS.... Also the level 2 sonogram and they did not detect another marker. Do you think that being bialteral and growing can be correlated to having DS? Please if you have some case like mine please share your outcome... Thanks ↑ |
| Does somedody has hear about biomagnetism... do you know if that theraphy could find out a chromosomo defect in a baby? ↑ |
Just wanted to provide another happy update about my little boy. I first posted in August 2008 and then posted again in May 2009. Just a brief recap. They found dilation in both of my little boy's kidneys for the first time when I was about 36 weeks pregnant. He was born nice and healthy in July 2008 (without DS). Repeated ultrasounds were done over the first 9 months of his life with very minimal improvement and then it got worse. At 9 months old (May 2009), he underwent surgery for a UPJ in both kidenys with a pediatric urologist! She was fantastic!!!!
We just had his 15 week follow-up from surgery this past month. His kidenys are both functioning perfectly without a kink in sight!!!!
This site was such a wonderful source of support for me! Mommies and Daddies hang in there! UPJs are a treatable conditions! If anybody needs any more information, let me know! ↑ |
Hi all- just wanted to share another great outcome of a baby with bilateral pyelectasis. I gave birth to my son, Caiden, on June 14th. He is happy & healthy although he STILL does have some fluid in one of his kidneys.
A few weeks after birth we went in for an ultrasound to see if the fluid in both kidneys was reducing but it turns out it was not. So, a few weeks later we went in for a VCUG. This showed that the fluid was actually getting a bit worse (& they always hope that it gets better & dissipates after birth). In any case, we were then sent to a Pediatric Urologist at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento & he repeated the tests a couple months later. It turns out that one kidney has almost no fluid in it & the other is finally starting to reduce. We now have a follow-up ultrasound in a few months to assure things are still moving on the right track but wanted everyone to know things can & often do work out for babys with pyelectasis. Most seem to be remedied after birth but ours was not & months later his is getting better.
Have faith! ↑ |
| Nicole! I am very happy for you that your baby is doing weel. I want to ask you when did you knew about the bilateral dilatation and of you remeber the measures, and how was it during the pregnancy. I am in your same situation and very scared.... thanks!! ↑ |
