Hello..I am new to this forum and am having problems with getting insurance approval for some home nursing with my 6 year old. He has a trach tube and a feeding tube ( was born with a cystic hygroma and hospitalized for 12 months as a baby and also has developmental delays)and while we can manage him quite well, there are just times we do need some nursing assistance with him and after just getting new insurance due to employment changes, we have been denied even with a doctors letter of medical necessity! So I have 3 other kids and it gets so crazy, I truly beieve God gave him to us for a good reason but the management of such a busy household can be very overwhelming. I am just unsure if it is worth it on me to pursue an appeal. Just looking for any advice from someome who has gone thru similiar circumstances.

We cannot qualify for state assistance because of our income, which is not extravagant by any means considering how much his medical supplies are each month, but we just do not meet the qualifications. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Some states have medicaid programs for children that don't count their parents income. Maybe ask a social worker, they should know. You may also want to check with your local SSI office and see if your child would qualify that way, I think they might have a program in which the parents income can be waived in order to get medicaid. Good Luck!
