| I might. We're in the process of having our 21 month old tested to see why she's so behind. She only started walking at 18 months and doesn't talk. She jabbers all the time instead. However, I feel that it may have started when she was just 12 months old. A couple of weeks after her first birthday, she had a nasty accident with a TV tray at my grandmother's house which caused her to have 7 stitches. She was awake through the entire thing and afterwards would have nothing to do with doctors or anything medical. She will freak out big time and cling to me. I can't even apply a bandaid if she has a little cut. We're going to have some tests done to rule out anything medical but we're worried it could have started with the trauma. Prior to that, she was saying 'kitty' and 'daddy' but stopped afterwards. I know what you mean about an unsupportive extended family. I hear 'she's spoiled' or that she doesn't have to talk because we do everything for her or even that she didn't walk because she was always carried. That's simply not the case. She's been in speech for almost 3 months now with no noticeable improvement so we're moving on to more tests. It's really scary. I wouldn't say our daughter has behavior problems, such as tantrums though. ↑ |
