Low-lying placenta

We went to the perinatologist (high-risk doctor) a week and a half ago and they said everything was great...the babies were growing and developing perfectly.  We found out after my OB visit when we found out the genders of the babies that I have a low-lying placenta (basically same thing as placenta previa).  She said she wanted to keep an eye on it and hopefully it will move upwards on its own.  I have been having some problems with blacking out and feeling faint/dizzy and with some swelling of my legs, feet, and ankles and she said that is probably due to the low-lying placenta.  It is probably pushing against the arteries in my lower back and reducing circulation to my lower extremeties and that is why I am swelling.  She said the feeling dizzy and faint is from the low-lying placenta too.  I hope it moves up.  I have gained 5 pounds so far and I am 22 weeks along now.  I am kinda proud of myself.  Going by the books, I should have gained more but since I wasn't tooth-pick thin to begin with, I am happy with myself.  I have gotten pretty uncomfortable, I think one of the babies has changed positions and now one is up and down and the other is sideways.  They are so much stronger than they were just a week ago.  Their kicks and punches are a lot more distintive.  I love it.

We moved last weekend and now we have the fun job of unpacking all of these boxes.  I got most of the kitchen stuff unpacked, but I forgot my cast-iron skillets in the stove at the old house!!!!!!!!  My pregnancy brain has gotten the best of me!  haha  Our daughter LOVES our new house and actually screams when we leave to go somewhere because she wants to stay at our "new house."  She loves playing in the backyard.  The neighborhood is quiet and the neighbors are nice.  Well, I better hop off of here and get some more boxes unpacked.  I want to get a lot done this weekend with the unpacking.  I will update more later on.

Found out genders of twins today & went to appt with new OB

Today we went to the appointment to see my new OB (the 4th one) and I absolutely LOVED her!  She was awesome!  She is also pregnant and due in 3 weeks.  She was very friendly and thorough and down-to-earth.  She said she wants the twins to make it 36-37 weeks and we will attempt to do a vaginal delivery but I will be delivering in the OR instead of the regular delivery room, just in case I need an emergency c-section.  Anyways...everything went great!!!!

Oh...and we found out the genders of our sweet twins.........

Twin A = BABY GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twin B = BABY BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are so happy!!!!!!  This will definitely complete our family!  I love these babies so much already!  The ultrasound went great too.  The babies were moving around a lot and showing off for us too!  Their hearts looked great, spines are fine, and they are perfect!  We will be getting ultrasounds/growth scans on them every 3-4 weeks, so that means we will be seeing them often! YAY!  I have an appointment to see the high risk doctor in 2 weeks, just to check out everything completely.  Oh, during the ultrasound, as soon as the ultrasound tech put the wand on baby boy, he spread his legs and grabbed his "package"!!!!!  It was so funny!  You could see him stretching out his legs and kicking his sister in the head and she would put her hands up to her head as if she was saying "OUCH!!!"  Right now, she has her feet down near my cervix and and her head up near my belly button.  Baby boy has his head near her little butt and his feet near her head.  They said the placentas are in my back.  Both babies are facing towards my back.  It almost looks like baby girl has her head laying on one of the placentas!  Our daughter was in the room with us and she said, "Aww, mommy, baby has a blankie too!!!!"  She is 2 1/2 yrs old and has  a security blanket that we have to take everywhere (she had herself wrapped up in it the entire time! haha).  We had a really great time today, even though it was at the doctor's office.  My mom, oldest sister, husband, and daughter were there with me in the ultrasound room.  Well, I just wanted to post this great news.  I will add more later!

By the way, I added some pictures!

Hurricane Gustav
Well, Hurricane Gustav is due to hit Louisiana on Monday or Tuesday and just about everyone is making preparations to head further north.  A lot of the schools all over the state are closed from Monday-Wednesday right now. The interestates and highways are packed and the southbound lanes are closed.  This storm is predicted to be the worst hurricane yet...worse than Hurricanes Katrina & Rita, which hit in 2005.  With Hurricane Katrina, it was 400 miles wide...with Gustav it is 900 miles wide and is already a Category 4 (right now), Katrina was only a Cat 3 and it billions of dollars worth of damage on New Orleans alone.  When I was pregnant with my daughter, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita came through but we were out of state with my husband's job at the time so we weren't really effected...just a couple tornadoes and high winds that blew down trees.  This time around, they are already sand-bagging the northern cities of the state because there are threats of flooding.  They are calling Hurricane Gustav "The Storm of the Century."  At first I wasn't really worried and was going to stay home (I live in central LA) but now I am going to head further north.  So, tomorrow, I will be packing clothes, water, canned foods, fans, diapers, blankets, and the dogs and heading north.  All of the hotels around here and in east TX and southern AR have no vacancies, so chances are I will be going to stay with my sister.  My husband is working away from home but hopefully they will send him home.  I am worried about his safety.  I dont know what I would do without him.  He means so much to me.  I am kind of worried about being pregnant with twins and this Hurricane going on.  Since I am only 18 weeks along, I doubt I will go into labor but I am just scared for some reason...or worried, should I say.  Well, I will update more later on in the week after the hurricane passes.

Long update
Okay, this update is kinda long.  Last Wednesday I went to the appt for my new OB and he seemed nice but didn't seem very intelligent.  He seemed like he didn't believe that I was really pregnant with twins and he went to do a vaginal ultrasound on me and I told him that I was 16 1/2 weeks along so he changed it to a regular ultrasound.  He believed me about the twins after that.  He looked at each of them and saw their little hearts beating and we looked at their arms and legs and spines and ribs.  They weren't as active as they usually are.  He did get them to do the "spread eagle" and we saw that one had a little "bump" between its legs and the other one didn't...so, we may just have a baby boy and a baby girl.  He set up the gender ultrasound for Sept 3.  I can't wait!!!!  After he did the ultrasound, he mentioned that if I haven't gone into labor by the time I am 33 weeks, that he will schedule the c-section for 35 wks.  I was like "WHAT?!!! C-section???"  He said that he doesn't even attempt to do vaginal deliveries on twins. I asked to be seen by another OB in the clinic, one that would work with my wishes even if they ended up in a c-section.  He said he has to think about his anxiety level!!! WHAT???? I usually am not very blunt with people but I told him that this isn't about HIM, this is about ME and my babies.  I don't like the thought of him wanting to induce me at 35 weeks and force a c-section on me.  He talked to the other OBs in the clinic and I got a call the next day and they told me that there was ONE doctor that would work with my wishes of attempting a vaginal delivery with my twins....so, I have an appt with her after my ultrasound on Sept 3.  On Sept  17, I have an appt with a high risk doctor, basically to completely check out the twins and make sure everything is going okay.  Hopefully this new OB will not be so forceful with what she wants and will help make this pregnancy and delivery as smooth as possible.  As far as weight gain...I still haven't gained any weight, but my belly is definitely poking out there now.  I am already getting a little uncomfortable.  I am still having the blacking out/dizzy spells.  Hopefully my blood pressure will level out soon and not be so low.  Well, I will try to add more later on, but definitely after the gender ultrasound on Sept 3!!!!!!!  I am so excited!!!
