I woke up at 6am to go to the bathroom. Afterwards I decided to go downstairs to get a drink of milk. On my way down the stairs, I felt a slight trickle down my leg. I thought I didn't wipe all the way (lol) or that it was some of the mucus stuff. Anyhow, all day I was slightly more wet than usual. I wasn't sure if I broke my water or not because I had the membranes stripped only 2 days before, so I thought it was just from doing that, that was making my vaginal discharge more. Finally at about 9pm I called over to L&D to ask if I should wait until the morning or to come in. They said I probably urinated since the baby is so far down and the pressure on my bladder. I said, "I didn't pee myself" lol... they said, "well..." I said again, "I know it wasn't pee" so, they told me to come in.
It was almost 10pm by then. They got me in a bed and did a swab to test my vaginal discharge to see if it was amnio fluid. The moment it touched the indication paper, it turned bright blue real fast. They said that is the fastest they have seen the paper turn in a long time. Then the dr. said, "Well, you are not going home pregnant this time" (lol). At that point I still wasn't having any contractions. I was still at 4cm and 90% effaced and baby at -1 station. They had me walk the halls until midnight. Then they gave me the smallest dose of pitocin which jump started my contractions right away and didn't need anymore. Just needed a little boost. At about 2am they checked me and I was 5 cm and during they broke the rest of the water bag and shortly there after the babies heart rate dropped real low with each contraction. So, they stuck an electrode thing in his head to monitor his heart much better. It still showed a huge drop in his hr during the contractions.
At about 4:30am I was checked to be 7cm and the pain started getting real strong. My doctor didn't get in until 7am and I was hoping that when he did come in I would be almost fully dilated. Well, when he got there at 7am, he started talking c-section because of how bad the babies heart rate was. Just that he was in distress. Also, they usually don't let you go past 24 hours after your water breaks and we were approaching that point. So, he did an internal and noticed I was 8 cm (not what I wanted to hear, but he thought that was good) so he said, well.. lets just see what happens and give it a little more. Well... at that point I was in so much pain that I was throwing up bile since my tummy was empty and I was shaking uncontrollably. Dr. said that I was in like the . 5% of females taking the pain as well as I was. I was like, "bull shit" because I felt like I was dying.
After about 3 hours past, I finally had it and said I cant take this anymore and if there is any pain meds I could take. They said I could only get an epi. because anything else would affect the baby which we couldn't do since his heart rate was very iffy. I gave in and said to go ahead and give me the epi. Well, once they had me leaning forward and stuck the needle in my back, I said, "I think baby is coming"... so, they leaned me back on the bed and I was 10 cm dilated and ready to push. Never even got to finish the epi. (lol) Well... it took 26 minutes of pushing. They said real fast for a first timer. hehe. He was born at 11:36am. His hand was under his chin when he came out. Probably what caused his heart rate to drop with the contractions. I ended up with first degree tear.
2 days after the baby was born, (the day we were supposed to leave the hospital) the tested his billirubin level (for jaundice) and it came back slightly high at 16 (they like to see it under 12 or 13), so they brought in a lamp to put around his basinet to help bring down the levels. They tested again that night and it was still high, but went down to 15, so we ended up staying another night. In the morning it was down to 14, so they let us leave on May 8th. His follow up appt. was 2 days later, May 10th and they tested his level again and it went slightly back up 16, so they had me come back in the next day to re-test. Well, the next day, May 11th, his level came back down to 14 so they said he is just fine.
That was his only little complication, yet not a big one at all and now he is totally fine and looks great!!!!
