Updates, Updates!

Now that I'm home, relaxed, feeling better and that my internet is back up; I figured, time for an update.

I've been healing wonderfully. I thought things would be alot worse than they actually turned out but I can't say that I've had to complain about too much pain. The first few days were really hard as I'm used to using my abdominal muscles alot throughout the day and without the hospital beds that can be adjusted to a sit up position before you get out of bed, I found that really tough. The last two days I can't say that I've complained about my stitches at all and actually, last night I was able to lie on my sides again for sleeping or just relaxing. I was so happy to not sleep on my back any more (although for the last 4 months I complained about having to lie on my sides...funny how that works). Once I can sleep on my stomach I'll be happiest but I'm content waiting for the day when I'm fully healed and I can do that safely. I don't have cankles any more (calf-ankles...haha) which is great. I can't say how painful it was to be on your feet trying to get to the hospital to feed your babies or be out and about to take care of yourself when your ankles and feet are swollen. I actually have chicken ankles right now from all of the weight I've lost from pumping or breastfeeding. Prior to getting pregnant, I was 122. During pregnancy I got up to 149lbs total, which wasn't bad at all. This morning when I weighed myself I was 119.5lbs. Thank you babies!

Now, an update on the babies. They're both doing amazing, I'm so proud of them:

Silas was the first born out of the two. At birth he weighed 4lbs 15 1/2 oz. He's a spitting image of his father. Silas was obviously the one to jump the gun as he was the bigger of the two and the one that appeared to be at a more mature stage of development. He was a quick one to learn to breastfeed and he generally takes anywhere from 10-14 mg's when he breastfeeds and then takes the rest through a tube. He's consistantly gaining weight, although yesterday he lost a little bit. Today he had gained that back. Over the last week he's definitely gained some characteristics in his face and he's starting to be more attentive. He will actively look your way if you call his name when you're holding him. He definitely loves his daddy already as when he's crying and John is around he immediately calms down. Silas has had 1 d-sat. This is when his heart rate drops quite a bit, although he was able to recover on his own and hasn't had another yet.

Hayden was the smaller of the two and at birth, he weighed in at about 4lbs 7 1/2 oz. Hayden was the top dog today! Generally he takes about 5-7 mg's when he breastfeeds. The most that he had taken at one time was 13 mg's and today, he took a whopping 19 mg's. I was so suprised and I felt terrible for under-estimating the litte guy....haha. He's such a trooper. Hayden has mommy's blonde locks but definitely has features from both of us. He likes to snuggle. He does well with gaining weight daily as well, had a little fall in the weight yesterday but today he had gained 41 g's. He has a sign on his side of the crib (this came directly from his incubator) that says 'Caution! Be careful. I like to pee everywhere!' The nurses quickly found this out and so did mommy and daddy. Currently he's peed in his incubator, on a nurse, on daddy, on mommy, on himself, on the walls and the blankets etc. He's gaining more and more characteristics in his face but he's still quite tiny. I can't wait to hear him laugh for the first time as I'm definitely already in love with his whimper-cry. Hayden has had 2 d-sats but also recovered quickly on his own. He also hasn't had any since the two which occured within one night.

They will be watching both babies for the d-sats and if they continue they will provide them with small doses of caffine which appear to help. The nurses don't feel that this will be necessary though as they've done great after the incidences that they've had.

Anywho, just on the way out the door for a walk with my lovely fiance. We're going to go enjoy some sunshine, relax a bit and then we have friends coming to the hospital with us to see the little guys. After that, UFC! YAY.

I will try to update as much as possible as it seems that there is so much that happens within a few days with these little guys. Write shortly!

THEY'RE HERE!

Sorry I didn't wind up posting an update that day that I said I would. I was experiencing some discomfort and low and behold, the little guys came on Wednesday. Later on when I'm feeling a little more up for sitting in front of the computer for a bit, a better update will be posted on how they're doing and how it all happened.

For now, the babies are doing well and they're still in the hospital as they were preemies. I'm recovering great as well.

Update to come soon!

Update Later Today

Hey all,

I had written up this great update yesterday but our internet connection decided to go down JUST as I was submitting it in which case it disappeared into virtual land. ARGH. I will type another great one up this morning...just have a few things to do first.

Soon!

What does May bring?

I'm glad you asked...

May brings much discomfort in many ways. Not only am I back to my 'hardly any sleep' routine, but now; I'm also getting itchy EVERYWHERE. On top of getting itchy, I'm finding that my hands are swelling quite a bit. I had called the doctor the other day to check on everything because I was concerned that maybe I was having an allergic reaction to something (with the itching - we all know swelling is quite normal). She then stated that itching was normal, but that I would get it twice as bad due to having twins. She wasn't joking. Luckily I'm able to take Benadryl for it. I find that it works great in the evening but when I wake up in the middle of the night and it's worn off, I'm not getting back to sleep very easily or getting back to sleep at all.

Still, babies are healthy and I'm healthy other than driving myself insane with the discomfort. I've also decided to have a c-section because the doctor said it would be safer and cause less stress for the babies. If I were to go natural, it would be possible to deliver one if he wanted to come out the right way but then I still risk having a c-section to get the other out if there were complications. Not my thoughts of fun if you ask me...haha. I'd rather just have one or the other (c-section or natural birth). With that in mind, the boys will likely be here by June 14th or 15th. We're going to be setting a date when I see the doctor again on Monday. I'll be sure to post then so that everyone is aware of the date.

Anyways, I'm going to go douse myself in Calamine lotion now before I end up ripping my skin off...haha.
