Hi Umpqua,
I just finished reading your birth story. Thanks so much for posting it! I was horrified to read about the painful contractions and the inconsiderate hospital staff. I'm sure the IV and hospital gown might seem like little things to them but to us it means the difference between a familiar and comfortable environment and a scary hospital setting. I can't understand their insistance on such details which are for their own convenience only. I remember I was really shocked when my doctor mentioned to me how she had gone through labour and given birth in stirrups, after I had read so much on how that position is not at all conducive for delivery! But I guess in your case, the C-section was in fact necessary due to the fibroids. So you and your doctors did the right thing, and you should have no regrets at all about it.
Oh and by the way, I'm sorry I made so many remarks about the size of the baby - I did not realise that was such a contentious issue! I was just joking, really, knowing how big his Dad is! In fact, I have also read that the baby's size is restricted by the size of the mother's body, and that often babies of smaller mothers are actually born underweight, and then catch up quickly in the first few days or weeks afterwards. So you were certainly right about that.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear all is well now, and thanks so much for sharing your story so that other prospective parents know what to expect. I guess so many new parents are too overwhelmed with joy (and/or sleep deprivation!), or perhaps they simply don't feel the need to re-live those moments. But it was a real eye-opener for me and I am really grateful to you for posting it. Although I know that hospital staff are generally predisposed to medical interventions, who could have predicted this insane insistence on slipping your baby a bottle of formula? I really felt for you when you wrote about the nurse asking to take Jacob off alone to get his blood sugar checked while your husband had gone to inform the families. I thought to myself, "I would have been crying hysterically at that point!" And then of course that's what happened when they took Jacob away from you while your husband slept!
You are such a brave and caring mother, going through so much to give your baby the best possible start in life! :~)

Congratulations on the birth of Jacob!
I read your birth story and it reminded me of the birth of my own Jacob, in June of this year. Jake's heart rate was also dipping after each contraction, and we had an emergency c-section because of it. The delivery was not anything that I'd expected it to be, and for a long time after it, I grieved what I "lost". Please know that you're not alone in this experience....and that you did everything you could & in the best interest of Jacob!
Sorry you had so much trouble in the hospital, too. Ugghhh!! I also know how utterly exhausting a hospital stay can be, especially trying to recover after major surgery and a LIFE CHANGING event!!
Most importantly, I am so glad to hear your Jacob is healthy, happy & doing so well! He is SO cute!!
Enjoy every bit of him - children are such a blessing!
Hope your recovery is going well!!! May God bless your family in 2007!
Warmly,
Beth

Hi Jane,
Your bump is so cute! About the bra's, I just went up in size in the regular section. My friend, who is one of 7, said that her mothers trick to having non saggy and little stretch marks on her breast was not going up on the bra size too quickly. Keeping them closer and tighter together supposedly helps with that. Sports bras don't have that much support so you may want to consider maternity bras instead for more comfort. Good luck on hearing the heartbeat. Glad everything is going good so far!
