Baby has arrived!

I heard the bean's heartbeat
I just got back from my second prenatal exam, and all is well with me and the baby. I ended up not needing an ultrasound as the doctor was able to find the hearbeat using the doppler. It's a healthy 152 bpm - yay! We heard it too, although it sounded like weird alien whooshing sounds. But we were definitely able to distinguish it from my slow heartbeat.

I'll go back for another checkup in 4 weeks, and then see the specialist and have a Level 2 ultrasound one week after that. I'm so happy that everything is going well! He also told me my weight gain is healthy and on target, so I guess I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing.

Tomorrow is 2nd Prenatal
I've made it through a full week without nausea - yay! My energy level is definitely up too, and I did pilates and a lot of work around the house over the past week. Tomorrow is my 2nd prenatal exam and I'll get an ultrasound. I'm a little nervous and excited, but I think after this one I'll feel more confident and at ease with this whole pregnancy thing. Then I can look forward to feeling the baby move, hopefully soon. I'll make another entry after tomorrow's exam, hopefully with a new photo of the bean!

12 Weeks and all is well
I've officially made it past the 12 week point. Yay! I guess next week I'll offiically be in my 2nd trimester. I went to see the high risk fetal medicine doctor this morning and that was great too. He basically said my blood factors, while showing a slightly elevated risk, are on the low side and he thinks everything should go just fine with the pregnancy. So the risk of miscarriage has definitely gone done and I should just be happy. Very good news and me and the hubby were so happy!

My morning sickness seems to be a thing of the past now, luckily. My energy levels are slowly returning too, and I'm feeling pretty good in general. Not as energetic as pre-pregnancy, but not so extremely lethargic either. I hope this means the 2nd trimester "honeymoon phase" is going into effect.

I'm also anxiously awaiting the arrival of my maternity clothes. I'm still squeaking by in regular clothes, but it's hot out now and I want to be comfortable for my long walks to work. We told my nieces about the pregnancy over the weekend and they are delighted at the prospect of getting a new cousin. It's also good to know we have a built in babysitter network in place (7 nieces). My sister-in-law's sister also spotted my bump right away and asked my mother-in-law if I was pregnant. She's the first person to do so, so I'm feeling good that maybe I'm starting to show and not just looking like I've got a massive beer gut. I've begun wearing clothes to work that allow the bump to show also, so hopefully people there (I've only told a few people) will begin to figure it out.

Next Tuesday is my 2nd prenatal exam with another ultrasound scheduled. Maybe we'll get to hear the heartbeat too!

Maternity Clothes
I'm nearly 12 weeks pregnant and I've gained 8 pounds already. I've been eating healthy and staying active so I'm just dealing with it. All of it has gone to my belly and boobs and it's been extremely difficult to dress myself over the past couple of weeks with only 2 pairs of pants still barely fitting. I'm also at the point where I'm going to start stretching out my cute little summer shirts.

So I broke down and ordered a few things online this week. The first was a maternity bra, which should be arriving today. Then I spent some time on the Motherhood Maternity web site last night and ordered 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of shorts, a 4-back of underwear and 3 tops. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable - almost everything I got was marked down. I can't wait for my new arrivals!

I guess I'll have more to update after the long weekend and seeing my specialist Tuesday morning.
