Making the grade We went to the doctor again yesterday and by all accounts I got an A+. I am gaining just the right amount of weight (which helps me keep from worrying that I'm gaining fat and not baby) and my blood pressure is great. We also got to hear the baby's heart again, which is always amazing. First we just heard the slow thud, thud of my heart while the doctor moved the "doppler" around and then we heard the loud whirring (that's how fast it is) of Baby Adia's heart. That was the best part of the visit. Of course the appointment was over pretty quickly since there wasn't a whole lot to do. We do know that two months from now we will find out if Baby Adia is a boy or a girl so at Thanksgiving, we will have even more to celebrate!
We also went to Just Between Friends yesterday. It is a huge consignment sale and we were hoping to save some money on the bigger items. The cribs were overpriced, considering that they were used, and the strollers and swings all looked gross (wouldn't you clean something before trying to sell it). Our friends Adam and Ashley told us it was because all of the good stuff was already taken and I must say that I believe them. I did pick out some maternity clothes, but when we saw the line to get out of there we decided it just wasn't worth it. Oh well, maybe it will be better when we actually know what we want...

So long size 4 :( Well, the first trimester is close to over now. I'm a little over 10 weeks along and I must say I'm thankful to have avoided many of the pregnancy symptoms. In fact, when I read my daily emails from "What to Expect" I begin to wonder if I'm really pregnant at all. :) I do get nauseous, but only if I allow myself to get hungry which I'm pretty good at avoiding! I'm also still a bit more tired than usual. I got teased for going to friends house this weekend and crashing in their guest room at 9:00 while everyone else played farkle (I knew Dean was going to win anyway).
I'm starting to show a little, but it looks more like I've been raiding the cookie jar. At least I know I was wearing a size 4 this summer (I still can if I want to be an uncomfortable muffin top). This Thursday, Dean and I are going to a HUGE consignment sale where I hope to find some maternity clothes (I'm getting close to outgrowing my pants) and some baby furniture on the cheap. Hopefully we'll be able to find some of the major items: crib, dresser, stroller, play yard. Our friends Adam and Ashley have been to this sale a few times before and from what we understand, there is quite a selection.
Dean and I also have our next appointment with the doctor this weekend. I think that it will be a pretty short one since there is no ultrasound planned and there are no tests at this time. I'm guessing we'll find out that I'm still pregnant. :)

What's in a name? Since I think there are already those who are wondering about possible baby names, I think it is safe to share what we have figured out so far. If we have a little girl (fingers crossed) she will be Sophia. If we have a little boy (Dean hopes) he will be Devan. Of course nothing is set in stone yet (except that I really want a Sophie!) so don't start monographing anything just yet! We are still looking for ideas for middle names, so we welcome any and all suggestions.

First Journal Entry Ever! This first entry finds Dean and I very excited and happy. We had our first ultrasound yesterday (see the homepage for a pic) and got to hear our baby's heart beat. That was Dean's favorite part. We also found out that we almost had twins. Having twins would have been very exciting, but we are just as happy to have one healthy baby. Maybe next time. :) Baby Adia is 7 weeks and four days old and is about 1.33 centimeters long and has a heart rate of 152 beats per minute, all wonderful signs of a healthy little jelly bean!
I will try my best to be diligent with the journal entries, especially for those of you who live far away. Please take a moment and sign our guestbook and let us know how you are doing. -V
