Salt is bad, mmkay! Yesterday's appointment with the doctor went okay. I did get a slap on my wrist because I've been consuming too much salt (I know better). I was all kinds of puffy for the appointment because I had fried rice for lunch. Dr. Howell wasn't worried about the water retention though because my blood pressure is still great so it isn't a sign of preeclampsia or anything else bad. Other than that, we got some questions answered about episiotomies (not routine) and sleeping on my right as opposed to left side (both are good). We also found out that at my next exam we will start having pelvic exams each time and that at the exam after that we are going to have another ultrasound . The appointment with the ultrasound is going to be the first of weekly appointments (3 weeks from now). Can you believe it!!!??? I have 6 weeks and 4 days left until my due date. That's so soon!!!

That's the last time I'll... Last night I won a drawing for Mavericks tickets (the first night with Jason kid, but not court side seats ). I actually mentioned in the email expressing my interest that it may be the last chance I have before Sophia arrives. Dean and I had a great time, but it probably is true that once Sophia is a part of our lives I won't be able to enter a drawing for last minute Mavs tickets. In fact, there's going to be a lot of things that I won't be able to do anymore- like happy hour!
Realistically, I know that we will still be able to do things, they'll just be different. For example, I may be able to go to happy hour, but Dean may not be able to join us so that I can go or we'll have to plan happy hour in advance so that we have a baby sitter. We probably won't be doing as many things spontaneously and unfortunately, our group of friends doesn't tend to plan many things, if anything, in advance.
So now I am starting to wonder if something I do is the last time I'll do it. I'm not really sad about this. In fact, I'm rather ambivalent right now. Things are going to change and I always knew this. I'm just starting to appreciate it, that's all.

A Sea of Pink Dean and I went to the Woodlands this past weekend to visit my parents and grandparents (who were in town from Arkansas) and had a nice visit. Mom presented some outfits that she had picked out that weren't pink. Hooray for yellow, green, purple and blue! Not that there isn't anything inherently wrong with pink, it is just that when looking at baby clothes for girls, pink dominates.
On our way home to Fort Worth, we stopped by the Carter's outlet (not outlet prices) and Babies R Us (to get some more thank you cards). They were having a sale on Gerber's onesies (prices that were what I had hoped for Carter's outlet) and so we picked up four packages. I think that we now have enough onesies to get us through at least the end of the year. Of course when you look at the laundry for Sophia- it is mostly a sea of pink. Slowly, but surely, I am coming to terms with this fact.
I personally have never been much of a "girly girl" but I can see from plenty of pictures that I did wear dresses when I was a toddler. At the end of the day, I know that what Sophia wears will please/displease me more than her. She won't have any opinions on her attire for a while (and I know that Dean has a very functional approach to clothing). When she does finally have a preference for one style of clothing over another, Dean and I will support her individuality, even if that individuality expresses itself through pink and frilly frocks.

Getting Bigger: The 34th Week of Pregnancy It sounds like I should be having some Braxton-Hicks contractions soon based on what I've been reading, but I don't think that I have had any yet. I certainly haven't noticed anything yet. What I have noticed is that I'm growing out of my maternity clothes. Which means that with less than two months to go I have to buy some new shirts. I got 3 just the other day and some jeans. It seems like such a waste to have these clothes for such a short time, but I'll probably use them next time around.
Another thing that is difficult is figuring out what we really need and what we don't. My dad tells me that really I already have everything that I need (excepting diapers of course) and everything else is just a want. There is probably some truth to that, but a nice stroller (not umbrella stroller) will be great for Dean's mom to take her for walks in (it will make it easier on Dean's mom) when she starts watching her. A pack and play will be a portable crib for when we visit people. An infant carrier will just be handy according to what everyone has told us (Dean's mom is especially sold on this idea). Oh well, we will figure it all out.
According to Baby Center, this is what is going on with Sophia this week: Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.
