Progress on Nursery

Tonight I worked on the nursery.  I've been looking for curtain rods for a couple of weeks now.  I'm picky about them b/c they aren't normal curtains.  I had bought 2 pink and green striped shower curtains from Pottery Barn when I bought the bedding.  My mom and I cut them in half to make 4 panels and sewed some paisley fabric on the bottom to make them longer.  Since it's a shower curtain, it has the slots at the top to hang from the shower rings.  So, we bought a bunch of green and pink ribbons and hung the curtain by ribbon.  Since you see the whole length of the rod, I wanted a fat rod with some kind of decorative end on it.  Out of everywhere I looked, I ended up finding some at Wal-Mart (the one place I tried to avoid!).  So tonight, my dad hung the curtain rods for me even though he was VERY upset about putting more holes in the wall.  So I finished getting the ribbons in the perfect order and making bows (which is hard for me to do-I usually get someone to tie pretty bows for me).  I am very pleased with the results!! It makes it look more like a nursery rather than the sheer black curtains that were previously hanging there!

Also, I had seen a lamp with ribbons tied around the shade and really loved it, especially for a nursery.  So since I was already buying a kinds of pink and green ribbons, I used the extras from the curtains for the lamp.  I guess I'm just picky about things, b/c I was also particular about the lamp. I finally found a Shabby Chic lamp and Pink shade from Target. The base is white and kinda antique looking.  It looks exactly like I pictured it! I'm very pleased!

Sunday, I put together a bathroom cabinet for her room. It was actually a wedding present that we hadn't needed since we don't exactly have a huge bathroom to put it in.  I was excited that I put it all together myself!  (It's in the pictures I added with the lamp on it).

Also, I had bought some letters to hang over the crib or somewhere in the nursery that spell her name.  And since we decided to give her an extra long name, I was only able to paint Kaylee until my creativity and patience ran out.  I'm planning to paint Beth tomorrow and I'll put a picture up of those.  The nursery really seems to be coming together.  I know we'll only be here for 2-3 months, but I feel like I still have to get a nursery ready for her to come home to.  I guess it's part of the "nesting."  When I was in junior high school, my parents bought me a glider for my room.  It turned out to be a light green with a little white and I think peach.  I had planned on spending the money I got for Christmas and buy a nice glider from Babies R Us, but since Homer and I are on a budget and need to be saving for a House and Medical School, I've decided just to use the rocker I have and save the 5 or 6 hundred dollars (which I know is CRAZY for a chair!)

By the way, I must say that I really enjoy watching the Elephant at the top of the page move further and further to the right.  It looks like me, or at least I feel that big!!

Swelling Up

As the weeks go by, I seem to be swelling more and more.  At first, I started noticing my feet getting fatter when I would walk or stand alot during the day.  Then I started noticing that my wedding rings were getting tighter and harder to take off.  So, last weekend, I took off my engagement ring (it's apparently about a quarter of a size smaller than my wedding band).  I had a ring that looked like an engagement ring already, so I put it on with my band.  However, next to real diamonds, the fake one was really yellow.  So today I had to run some errands and stopped by JcPenny and bought a fake diamond and band set to wear the next couple of months (in the above picture).  I know it's only 3 1/2 months, but I feel funny without my rings and besides, I look young for my age and I feel like people think I'm just some knocked up teenager that can't control herself!  So right now I'm sporting my $12 ring set and coupled it with my real wedding band since it still fits.

As you can tell in the pictures, my belly's getting bigger by the day it seems.  So along with dealing with the feet and hand swelling, it's getting harder to bend over and I've even had to alter the way I put on my socks, too. I enjoy being pregnant and seeing her grow and showing off my belly, but if I weren't pregnant, I wouldn't enjoy the fat comments!  I thought this was funny:  My parents and I went out to eat tonight, and when we were walking to the car, my dad kinda stopped and looked at me. Then he said, "You know, you sure are getting bigger!"  Then once he heard what he said, he quickly added, "But you're supposed to!"  I just smiled and laughed to myself, thinking that I would definately be fasting for days after that if I wasn't pregnant!

Feet, are you still there?

This morning I was in the shower and wondered if I stood straight with my feet together if I could still see them...  and the answer was NO!  I didn't think I was getting that big. And I always thought it was nonsense that pregnant women get to where they can't even see their feet. I mean, how big are you if you can't even see your freakin feet?!?  Well, apparently, I'm big enough.  Of course I can see them if I lean over slightly or if my feet are apart, but standing straight, I can't see past my round belly.

Yesterday I noticed that I am starting to get the dark line down my belly button.  Unfortunately I got my body hair from my dad and have some hair on my belly.  So at first, I thought it was just hair. But giving it a better look, it's the skin getting darker.  Even though I think the lines are pretty gross looking, I'm a little excited just b/c it makes me feel more pregnant (weird I know).  Also, my belly button is doing weird things as well.  It's really starting to slant upward and get less shallow.  So within the next few weeks, I think it's gonna be an outtie!

I mailed Homer a cd of pictures and recorded the ultrasound for him to see.  I asked him if he could make out anything from the ultrasound and he said he could see the head, arms, and feet, but not much else.  But I'm glad he could see those, they're the fun part to watch anyway! I had sent him pictures of the nursery. He said the only picture he didn't like was of her clothes (He said she had too many...Oops!!)  So yesterday my mom and I boxed up the things we wouldn't need until after we move and packed up the clothes from 9 months up.  So when he gets back, he won't see everything all at once and want to get a divorce!  Kinda sneaky, I know, but Hey, I don't have room for everything right now anyway!!

The marines messed up Homer's extension papers (he originally wanted to extend his contract for 2 more months to get him to Aug 1st so he could get all of the benefits and days he deserves).  But they lost those papers and said he can only have 1 month now.  So now his absolute last day in the military is July 1st, compared to his old date of June 1st.  I normally wouldn't be excited about having to put up with the military for another month, but we need it for the insurance alone, if nothing else!  This way we will still have the same insurance to get us though delivery and the first couple of check ups for Kaylee Beth.  He also gets a nice bonus for extending for even a month, which is always great!!  Homer says that he should be done at the beginning of June b/c he'll have about 17 leave days and is supposed to get 10 for maternity leave.  This way he can be in Birmingham for the birth and won't have to leave us the next week.  So, we will be staying at my parents house for a month or two while we look for houses in either Mobile or Kansas City.  So, it all seems to be working out for now.

A new sister!!

Ok, so the news is on facebook, so I'm guessing It's ok to share it with everyone... My brother proposed to Liz last night. And the best part is... she said Yes!!  I went shopping with him last Wednesday to look for rings. It was so hard to be sneaky and not let her know what we were up to, or that we were even up to anything!  We narrowed the MANY rings down to two and the girl at the jewelry store said she would hold them until Monday.  So My mom, Mark, and I went back Monday to buy one of them.  However, right when we walked in the store, Homer called me. Since I hadn't talked to him in a few days and he was about to leave for another week, I let Mark and my mom decide. But I did try to throw a couple more choices into the mix as I walked around on the phone.  So I got to talk to my hubby and Mark had one less woman giving her final opinion.  He decided on one and after I looked at them again, I think I would have picked that one too.  Luckily, Liz didn't notice anything out of the ordinary and didn't catch our text messages or emails and was totally surprised!  So now I will have another Sister-in-law (the first and only on my side of the family though).  My parents are so excited and now when they make comments about "their future daughter-in-law" it won't be so awkward!   I swear, if Mark didn't propose soon, my mom was going to do it for him.  She's so funny!!  So now almost everyone I know is either engaged or pregnant!  Everyone's growing up!

Today I went to lunch with an old friend and It was great to catch up. We've planned to go to the gym regularly during the day b/c she has night classes and wants to get fit for her wedding in May and face it, I could use the exercise.  so now I have someone to hang out with during the day instead of sitting home alone watching tv! When we were leaving the restaurant, I heard a waitress ask the table behind us if they wanted a brownie and ice cream. I immediately thought it sounded good. But, trying to eat better, I decided I didnt need it and we left.  I didn't make it very far b/c not even 15 minutes later, I found myself at Coldstone ordering ice cream with brownies, fudge, and caramel. It was so good!!  So I ate lunch, about 30 minutes later ate a big ice cream, and not even 30 minutes after that, was eating a bowl of strawberries!!  I just can't believe how much food I can put away!!  I'm trying not to go crazy with food (really I am) but I'm surprisingly not worried about putting on too much weight.  I've been on track so far, and I'll have plenty of nonpregnant time to stress about every calorie!
