Baby Pream has arrived!! After showing much of her stubborn spirit, Sarah Joan Pream finally decided to make her appearance into this world on Saturday April 12th. She was born at 5:17 am. She weighed 7 lbs, 14 oz and was 21 inches long. She is a beautiful girl with lots of dark hair, just like her momma was born with!
We had a very long week in the hospital waiting for Sarah to make her appearance. We checked into the hospital on Tuesday night and I got the Cervadil (spelling?) on my cervix overnight. Then on Wednesday morning we found out that it did not help my cervix to open one bit, I was still at zero! They then started me on Pitocin, hoping to get some contractions going. I did start having some minor contractions, but nothing that was helpful in opening my cervix. At about 4 pm the doctor came in and told us he would like to stop the Pitocin and do the Cervadil again that night. We were disappointed, but of course agreed because we wanted to have a natural delivery. Went through the whole process again with no progression and on Thursday afternoon had basically the same conversation with the doctor. He wanted to try the process one more time and if we didn’t make progress then we would be looking at having a c-section. I had an ultrasound on Wednesday and they determined the amniotic fluid level was getting low and therefore I could not go home and just wait it out. That meant that if the induction did not work on Thursday night/Friday then they would schedule a c-section for Friday night. Needless to say we were very frustrated with the whole process but wanted to do what was best for the baby so decided to give it one more try. Clint was such a trooper throughout this whole week. He was by my side literally the entire time, sleeping on the couch in the hospital room. He said it wasn’t that bad. J Just another reason why I love my hubby so much!
On Friday morning we got some positive news, my cervix was actually dilated to one! They started the Pitocin again and said I just needed to dilate a little more and they should be able to break my water. That happened sometime in the early afternoon and only took them four try’s to get done! They said that I had a tough sac, just one more thing to add to the list! Once my water was broken things started progressing quicker and by about 5 pm I was dilated to 3 and was starting to have major contractions. At that point I requested an epidural to get some relief. All I have to say is THANK GOD for the epidural. Hats off to all of you ladies who have made it through labor without it, but I was just not strong enough. The epidural gave me a chance to rest and relax for the rest of my labor. I don’t think I would have made it through the delivery if I hadn’t had that rest. I found out I was dilated to 10 at about 3 am and they turned down the epidural so I would know when to push. I started pushing shortly thereafter and after one hour and forty-five minutes, Sarah Joan was born! Her daddy and I were so happy to have her finally join us in this world!
We did have one scary moment in the hospital. On Saturday night I was feeding Sarah and when I was done she started to spit up and it was clear liquid. That liquid ended up going into her lungs and she started turning blue. It was very scary. Clint got her onto her side and got the fluid out. We called the nurses and they came and made sure she was breathing OK. They decided to take her to the nursery for a few hours to monitor her. Needless to say I was devastated. They said that some times that happens, the baby swallows amniotic fluid during birth and it slowly makes its way back out. Thank god it has not happened again since then. We made it through the rest of our hospital stay uneventfully and got to go home on Monday, April 14th. FINALLY! Our alost week long stay in the hospital was over and we got to take our little peanut home!!
