I am now 31 weeks pregnant.

May 1st Checkup
The checkup today went very well. The nurses checked my weight, blood pressure, pulse, did a urine test, checked the height of my uterus and listened to our son's heartbeat. Things looked good. The midwife did say that I had to make sure to drink enough water (8-10 glasses a day at least). Also, I have gained more weight than is ideal for 21 weeks so I need to try to cut back on all extraneous fats, sweets, etc. We already eat very healthily, and the midwife said that as long as I'm eating within the pregnancy guidelines for portions and food groups everything should be fine. It could be that my body will just gain more weight. We'll see.

My uterus has been stretching like crazy the past two days and it has been quite painful, especially lying down. Our son is really growing fast right now.

Joe and I went to Newport Beach today to watch the screening of Deface which is playing at the film festival there this week. It was a really nice drive down there, the weather was great. We met some nice people in the industry, had dinner with John (director of Deface), and had a nice, relaxing drive back to LA (singing along to songs from the musical 'Wicked'!)

Best Wishes,
Anya

Lunar month six!
Today is the beginning of our lunar month six. The author of our pregnancy journal book counts the months in "lunar months" (4 wks to a month). Its also the start of our 21st week. Things are still going fine. I do have more energy now to do things around the apartment and out and about. That's nice. I am having a lot of dreams though. Weird ones... everything mixed up. And some nightmares as well. But I've heard that its normal, especially going into the third trimester (just one lunar month away...4 wks).  I've not been able to sleep as well either. I find it difficult to get into a comfortable position and my muscles feel restless lately. But maybe I've slept enough in the first half of the pregnancy to make up for this time.

We've started thinking about names but haven't come even close to any possibilities. Joe keeps throwing out weird ones (names of food, mostly) just to be funny.  I  told him that its final...he can't choose the name for our baby! Heehee.

Later, Peeps!

Its a boy!
Hello everyone!

We just came back from our ultrasound appointment and found out that we're going to have a son! Very cool beans! Both Joe and I were surprised and excited. I think we kind of talked ourselves into believing that it would be a girl, but this is great! Its really nice being able to call the baby a 'he.' It definitely makes the whole thing more real and tangible. He was so cute...he was moving his arms around...sucking his thumb and touching his nose. The doctor said that everything looks perfect. She took all the measurements and said that it all looked on target for how we've calculated the age...very close to 20 weeks.

So yea! We're very happy and excited about the news today. He's healthy and things are on track!!!

Love,
Anya

20th Week
Yesterday we started the 20th week of pregnancy! I'm feeling good even though I do still get tired. Yesterday Joe was reading to me and I got sleepy and ended up taking a four-hour nap! I don't know how I can sleep so much! And I know that I'm really lucky to be able to do that these days. The things that some of the other women on these blogs are dealing with! My goodness, I do feel for them and it makes me appreciate the lucky things in my life!

Joe did a super job on the 28 mile labor march. I went to the closing rally (3 hrs long)  and it was so inspiring...all these workers getting together (from all kinds of different unions) fighting for better contracts, better working conditions and decent jobs! In a political and economic atmosphere where there is so much oppression and struggle for every-day workers, it is wonderful to be active in trying to make things better not only for ourselves, but for millions of people by extension!

I got some nice, comfortable maternity clothes from Ross on sale! It is amazing to get some clothes that fit my new body! Now I have options other than my couple pairs of sweatpants! Heehee. Its nicer to get out of the apartment now that I don't feel like I'm hiding under baggy sweatpants and t-shirts. Joe has been great, though, he's let me raid his t-shirt drawer as much as I need!!!

We're getting excited for the next ultrasound experience at UCLA the day after tomorrow! Its so cool getting to see the little one. We'll put up more pictures  then!!!

K, take care and we'll keep you all posted!

Anya
