Mother's Day

The past few years I have especially enjoyed going out on mother's day to watch the happy moms with their families hoping that one day that would be Ken and I. This year when mother's day was approaching I was debating whether or not this would be the first mother's day I would be celebrating as a mom. I am not even through my first trimester so it felt weird to celebrate. So I talked with my mom and looked to my family and friends for guidance.

My mom reacted as I knew she would telling me that I am a mom and that I should celebrate mother's day. But she is my mom...she is supposed to say that so I waited to see how other people acted.

As I was getting ready to leave work on Thursday (yes, I am leaving at a more reasonable hour), I walked out of my office heading toward the Executive Office door. It was then that I saw it...a pink and green bag hanging on the door. Everyone knows I love getting presents, so my smile was big. I had an immediate feeling about who the generous giver was...and that was even before I saw her distinctive handwriting on the card. I opened the mother-to-be card and I giggled out loud...I was right, it was from Gabby. Not only did I now know that this mother's day counted for me but I had my first baby clothes...two sleep and play onesies.

More cards and gifts followed which made me very happy and extra excited for our big arrival. Thank you to everyone who helped me realize that this year counts. I am so honored to be sharing this day with all the great moms I know.

Wow!

I think the card we received from Aunt Susan after we shared the news with her said it best...it simply said "Wow!". Ken and I are so excited to share the news about our first pregnancy with everyone. If you could have been there when I first told Ken we had a positive pregnancy test on April 16, it would have been what you expected. I was completely surprised with tears of joy running down my face and Ken was cool as a cucumber as if he already knew the news before I said it.

As you can imagine, both of our parents are extremely excited about becoming grandparents. We are looking forward to sharing this experience with them. Of course, the week we found out my mom was on her first trip out of the country in Mexcio. But luckily cell phones work between the US and Mexico and I was able to share the news with her...right before her big presentation.

Sharing the news with everyone has been so fun. I think mostly everyone has been surprised by the news and very excited. When I told my friend Amy the news we were sitting in her room with her daughter Cara who will be 2 in September. We were hugging and so excited and Cara was bouncing up and down so excited too...she is going to have a little cousin to be in charge of.

We are looking forward to sharing our journey over the upcoming months with you and hope you will visit our site to check-in often. Thank you for all the love and support you have shown us.

Love, Papa Ken and Mama Jen
