Pregnancy Reflections

After Birth

  You were born on:
Sunday, August 13th, 2006 at 10:32am.

  You weighed:
A healthy 7 pounds!

  And your length was:
You were 19 1/2 inches long. Your head was 13 inches round. You seemed so tiny, I couldn't get over it. I was so big that I thought for sure you'd be 8 pounds at least! I also thought you'd be longer because you felt like you took up my whole upper body!

After much thought, you were named:
Meghan Lanai Scruggs. Such a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl.

The first thing I thought when I saw you was:
When you came out of me you instantly cried. The first thing I wanted to do was to hold you on my belly (which I did) and soothe and comfort you. I said "Hello, Meghan. It's ok baby shhhhh. Mommy and Daddy love you."

The hardest part of the delivery experience was:
When my contractions started to become harder to get through. I wanted to try and go without an epidural - so when I opted to get an epidural I felt like I let myself down somewhat or that I should of prepared better. However, after getting the epidural I realized that I better prepared myself for the hardest part of labor which was pushing for an hour and a half. Without the epidural I'm not so sure I would of had the strength and energy to push you out.

The easiest part of the delivery experience was:
Checking in to the hospital - hehe. Well, losing my mucas plug and my water breaking were pretty easy. I knew then that we'd be meeting you soon. The easiest part of actual labor was resting after the epidural and not feeling the contractions.

What surprised me most about the delivery experience was:
How quickly it actually goes by. 16 1/2 hours was how long I was in labor. To anyone that wasn't there that seems like a long time, but to me it went by so quickly!

The big world events of the day were:
Meghan Lanai was born. Everything else is beans compared to your birth! :o)

What I can't wait to do with you:
Everything. I want to hold you tight for as long as I can. I want to see you look up at me with those beautiful eyes while breastfeeding. I can't wait to go swimming with you, plant our garden together, brush your long beautiful hair, play tag, go down the slide together for the first time, go on vacation as a family, splash in big puddles when it's raining, play dolls together, dress up and laugh together and do as many things together before you get to the age where you would rather do things with friends. That's why I CAN WAIT for you to grow up - I secretly (and maybe selfishly) want you to stay my little girl in my arms forever, hehe.
