Baby has arrived!

Soon

In six days my due date will be here.  I could have this baby at any hour.  So much still seems so unreal.  My last day of work was last Friday, I don’t miss it at all.  I try and picture myself at home with a baby and my mind just can’t seem to fully comprehend it.  I feel like I’m in some sort of transitional fog, not quite sure what my role is or what I’m supposed to do next.  Sometimes I get frozen in my own emotions, even though I can’t even put my finger on what those emotions are.  My husband tries to draw out of me what I’m feeling, giving un-asked for but much needed reassurance.  I dance back and forth from complete confidence to full-blown doubt in my ability to make it through labor and delivery.  Joe reminds me that he won’t leave me alone.  In my quiet moments, I remind God to not forget about me and ask Him to stay by my side, strengthening me as I go through this life changing event.  I then remember that He has brought me this far and has already promised to never leave me.

At 39 weeks, I really want this pregnancy to be over but know that I will miss it at the same time.  I am well aware of how fortunate I have been as far as pregnancies go.  Mine has really been a dream compared to some that I’ve read about.  My face didn’t get puffed up, my ankles aren’t swollen, sleeping has been pretty easy up until this last month, I never threw up once, I haven’t experience cramps or what they call ligament pains, and most importantly, no hemorrhoids!!  Joe said he thinks I just handle pregnancy better than most, but I know that I’ve been lucky.  My fingers and my feet do hurt a little though, which my doctor said is normal because of my joints loosening.  I haven’t been able to wear my wedding ring for weeks.  Of course I get exhausted if I’m on my feet too long, but I still enjoy going for walks with joe at night.  Mostly I’m just motivated by the thought that the walking will help the baby move his way on down quicker.  Nighttime is the worst as far as comfort goes.  I can tell this kid is putting on some fat because my belly is getting SO heavy.  It takes effort from my whole body just to turn from one side to the other.  Being able to sleep on my stomach again is going to feel so wonderful.

I had a doctor’s appt. today.  Still nothing exciting to report.  He’s not going to check me for dilation until my 40 week appt. next week.  Big bummer though, I found out that he’s only on-call in the L&D ward tomorrow and then not again until the 12th!  I know that the other doctors are just as capable, but I was really hoping for my doctor to be the one to deliver the baby.  So we’re trying to convince little Joey to come out tomorrow, but only if he’s ready of course.

Tonight we’re going to Macaroni Grill to celebrate our first full year of business!  The barber shop opened up on June 1, 2005, and thanks be to God has done nothing but grow throughout the year.  We are so thankful for all we have, it’s hard to believe that we are now being given a son.

Shower Success

I realize my baby shower happened three weeks ago, but I’m finally getting around to writing about it.  Of course a lot of you that are reading this were probably at the shower so you know how well it went, but I just wanted to say how perfect it was.  My mom and brother and sister did a beautiful job of decorating the clubhouse, everything looked so pretty.  The day went by really fast, and we brought home a TON of gifts and a lot of it was clothes.  I’ve never seen so many onesies in one place as there are in joey’s closet right now.  He’s going to be one stylin’ kid, that’s for sure. At least until about Christmas time, then we’ll have to restock his wardrobe. Anyway, thanks to everyone who was able to make it to the shower.  It truly was a special day!

Go Mom!
One other awesome thing that happened this weekend was my mom coming over and re-organizing our kitchen while we were gone.  She's really good at organizing (i'm not!) and as a gift to us, purchased stuff from Storables and other stores to help put things in their proper place.  The house looked awesome when we came home from the beach, and something like that being done really makes a baby coming seem less overwhelming.  So thanks Mom!  You're already a fantastic gramma even though Joey's not even officially here yet.
