All day ones. I never would get headaches pre-preggo. Must be the hormones. The same ones that cause my nose to be stuffy all the time and my right nostril only to bleed sometimes. I'm sure there will be much more fun things to come as well. But it will all be worth it in the end.
I know some of you out there must have prayed for me because i never did get full-blown sick. I just felt bad for about a day and then it was gone. So thank you. Prayers are always needed and appreciated.
We did get our tree on Sunday, and it's perfect. We both must have said about five times each that day, "That's a good looking tree!". Helvatia was kind of a let down, they didn't have milkshakes! apparently all they're good for is burgers, and even those are just okay. We decided that next year after the tree hunt we'll go to Rock Creek Tavern for some real McMenamins burgers. I don't know why they call it a tavern, it looks more like a mountain cabin on the inside with all the wood and the big fireplace. And there's no smoking at all so it'll be perfect for a six month old. Oh my gosh, we're going to have a six month old next Christmas! Hang on a sec, i'm recovering from another reality check.
We met Kelly and Meagan a few days ago for Seahawk's Monday Night Football game against the Eagles, they killed 'em. 42-0. The Mission theater (another McMenamins) downtown puts the NFL Monday night games on their big screen every week and it's free to get in. It was incredible packed, we were surprised. I didn't know there were that many Seahawk fans in Portland! Joe's already planning with his brother Mark about all of us going next year. We'll need a baby-sitter that night, any volunteers?
My mom and Randy are supposed to be coming back from Mexico today i think. she said she was going to write me like a week ago and i haven't heard from her so i did do some worrying, even though i'm not the worrying kind, she is. I just hope they're having lots of fun. I know we will in 3 days. On Sunday, we're taking the train up to Seattle for the Seattle/San Fran game. Can't wait!
Belly's been growing, definitely don't need maternity clothes yet, but the jeans sure are getting tight. That's all i've got for now. Did i mention before that we'll find out the sex of the baby about a month from now? Stay tuned....

Bummer Dude!
So, I'm pretty sure that i'm getting sick. You know the feeling. My stomach's restless, my throat hurts. I hope it's a fluke and doesn't progress. This is quite an inconvenient time for me to be slowed down. We have to get our Christmas tree on Sunday. And this is not a wimpy two minute drive to Bob's tree lot to buy a pre-cut tree that you can basically pick out while still sitting in your nice warm car. The "tree hunt" that we go on involves driving out into the country first thing in the morning and after driving backroads for a while seeing numerous signs for u-cut lots, one of us will make the decision of which one to go to, voicing to the other, "I have a good feeling about this one". It's joe's turn to decide this year. Then we will find a parking spot and spend at least the next hour and a half hiking up and down hills searching, searching. We'll narrow it down to a few, go look around some more, then come back and forget which trees we had said we liked! When we at last find the tree that was grown just for our living room, Joe gets down and dirty to work on cutting the beast down while i pretty much do nothing but tell him he's doing a great job. Tying the thing to the top of our car is a whole another story, which for your benefit i won't go into detail about. To celebrate our accomplishment, we will then dine at the Helvatia Tavern for lunch, joining all the other victorious tree conquerors for a burger and a pint. (Milkshake for me!)
Also the weekend after that, we're taking the train up to Seattle to watch the Hawks game then stay overnight. So really, you can see that i just can't get sick right now. I don't even know what cold medicines are safe to take while i'm pregnant. My brother's a doctor, what's your advice, Dr. Fearing? I know, I know, you're not that kind of doctor.
And i just looked at my calendar today, did everyone but me know that Christmas is only three weeks away?! How did it come so fast? I would be panicking except for thanks to my pro-active husband, we have several family members already shopped for.
Sorry there's no new baby news, but in this case, no news is good news.
Merry Christmas!

My, How You've Grown! Week 13
Welcome to the final week of the first trimester! By the end of this week, your baby is about three inches in length, and would fit cozily into the cupped palm of your hand. Although you can't feel his movements, he's all over the place at this point, arms and legs waving, body wriggling. Sometimes he gets the hiccups. Though he may seem agitated, he's really just feeling his oats, testing his brand-new powers of motion while he still has the room -- by the end of the next trimester, his living space will be much more cramped.
External sexual organs are beginning to emerge now, but these organs still aren't detectable by ultrasound.

The Word is Out
So now work knows too, everyone was real excited for us. The doctors appointment yesterday was nice and routine and boring. Blood tests came back, everything's normal. Heard the heartbeat again. It's in the 150's. Perfect. I lost a pound from my last visit. I told the doctor it was because before i was weighed late in the afternoon, and this time it was early in the morning before i'd had a chance to eat much. He said, "Yeah, but you also had Thankgsgiving!"
Today i am 13 weeks which means that joe and i will do our weekly ritual of looking online at different websites that have pictures and explanations of fetal development. Joe looks forward to it every week, being able to read up on what our baby has accomplished over the past seven days. Speaking of pictures, I put up a few on the photo album. Check it out! And thanks to everyone who signed the guestbook. I love reading them, please keep it up
