Baby has arrived!

weight check
Well today we had several exciting things happen.  First off we decided to change the spelling of the baby's name.  We are now going to spell her name Kiersten Anne Stoner.  We think this will help clarify pronunciation a little bit better.  We finished filling out all of the forms for the birth certificate.  Then we took Kiersten for her first weight check.  She checked out perfectly.  She was 7 lbs 5 oz today, which is the expected amount of weight loss from birth.  She is eating and certainly pooping exceptionally well!  Today I also got my staples removed.  Fortunately it was a painless process.  The scar is looking good.  We're just continuing to settle into life as new parents.  Kiersten is doing a wonderful job of helping the process along.  We couldn't have hoped for a better baby.  We'll post more pictures soon.

Kirsten is Here!
The baby has arrived!  Kirsten Ann arrived at 8:02 am on Thursday April 17th.  She was 7 lbs 12 oz and 19 inches long.  She is absolutely perfect!  She has a head full of sandy blonde hair and cute little chubby cheeks.  Her eyes are blue.  She is a wonderful baby.  We stayed in the hospital until this morning.  Mom and baby are recovering well and Kirsten is enjoying meeting all of her family.  The c-section went fairly well.  I was a bit scared going in but the medical team was so friendly and helpful.  Kirsten came out a little blue, her first apgar score was a 4, but she came right up to a 9 at the 2nd apgar.  She has done marvelously ever since.  She is going about 3 hours between feedings.  Unfortunately shortly after the c-section, my wound was bleeding a little too much and we had to go back to the OR.  I had to get cut back open and re-stitched up, with the addition of staples this time.  Recovery still going well though.  We'll post some pictures and keep updating as we get settled back into our new routine.

4/9/08 - Only one week to go!

We had another doctor's appointment on Tuesday.  Wish we could say we learned something.  Unfortunately we learned nothing new and had a doctor that neither of us particularly cared for.  Nothing changed and they really didn't even check me.  The baby's heartbeat was still in the 140's and she is still breech.  Other than that though, nothing new.  We are still waiting and hoping she may turn, but the chances of that are dropping every day.  For now it looks like we're still going with the csection next Thursday.

I can't believe she is coming in just one week!  It's scary but exciting.  The worst part is knowing too much.  I've seen too many c-sections - I would much prefer to be unaware of what exactly was occuring below the curtain.  Not really looking forward to having to have a catheter either!  Not always good to be in health care!  Hopefully all goes well and in a week we'll be holding our new daughter.  Ryan is getting very excited.  I think he would be much more excited if it didn't mean I was having him help me clean the house top to bottom!  Fortunately I think the house is just about ready - if he doesn't do too much damage with his birthday party this weekend.  Ryan is still hoping she'll decide to come this Saturday for his birthday.

Although its been busy and work is getting harder its been a fun time.  We're looking forward to seeing all of the family members and meeting Kirsten.  Its fun guessing what she'll look like.  We'll post pictures as soon as we can.  The countdown begins!

3/28/08 - We have an arrival date!
Well today was another Dr. appointment.  Everything is going fairly well.  I've put on just the right amount of weight and the baby is measuring right. Her heart rate is still going strong in the 140's.  I have started to dilate too! (just one centimeter - and the doctor said it doesn't mean much - I can stay at that for weeks).  We did however find out that Kirsten is in a breech position.  She is head up instead of head down.  The doctor gave us the option of attempting a manual version or scheduling a c - section.  A manual version is where they attempt to make the baby move positions by pushing in certain ways on your belly.  It's not supposed to be the most comfortable procedure and only has a 50% chance of working.  After much reading online and talking with family and friends we have decided to just schedule the c - section.  They want to wait until she is 39 weeks, so the c-section is scheduled for April 17th!  It's kind of scary but exciting too.  Nice to feel a bit more prepared, unless of course she decides to come early!  We'll keep everyone posted.  I have an appointment again on April 8th, so look for an update then.
