Baby has arrived!

Apple Orchard

My Little Pumpkin - October 14, 2006

Jacob is 4 1/2 months old.  Yesterday, we took him to the Apple Orchard with both sets of his grandparents.  It was more of a trip for us than for him, but it was fun for all!  The Apple Orchard is one of my favorite childhood memories; it was really neat to take my own son there!
Jake had his 4 month appt. Friday, 10/13/06.  He weighed in at 17 lbs, 4.5 oz and measured 25 inches long.  He is in the 90th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height.  He got his second round of shots, and I'm glad they are over!  The nurse who did them must have been relatively new -- she was kinda slow and got a little flustered by Jake's squirming (she made him bleed, then got upset that he was bleeding on his blanket, and then couldn't get the band-aid opened...meanwhile Jake is screaming bloody murder!  I'm thinking the whiole time "hurry up, just hurry up!")  He spiked a low-grade fever Saturday evening, but it was cleared up with Tylenol & a warm bath.  Poor baby.
He did, however, sleep 10.5 hours last night, which was so amazing (I feel like a new woman)!  He woke up so smiley and happy!  We went to church this morning and he snoozed there, for the first time, on my chest.  He is turning in to quite the snuggle baby - YEAHHH!!!!
Life is precious.  We are enjoying every moment with this sweet little boy.  We are so blessed by and so grateful for him.  I love, love, LOVE HIM!!  I have never, ever felt this HUGE LOVE in my entire life!!!!!
New news this week:  Scott, Holly & Baby P are in our prayers as they have a c-section on Tuesday, October 17th -- we are anxiously waiting to see if Jacob is going to have a buddy to wrestle with or a girlfriend to kiss!

What I love about being a mother

What I love about being a mother....

...Soft coos and baby-babble over the monitor

...Smiles on his face when I peer over the edge of his crib in the morning

...Nuzzles into my neck when I'm carrying him

...The way he lights up when he sees his Daddy

...Seeing the milestone developments every day, and cheering like everything is a "First"

...Belly Laughs

...Pulling his toes to his mouth

...Rolling over

...Bathing him - the way he holds his right foot out of the water each time he is in the tub!

...Nursing him

...His love of ceiling fans

...Evenings & weekends - family time

...Our own special "language"

...How he loves his doggy

...His love of music (espeically country, go figure!)

...EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF EVERY SINGLE DAY!

I am so blessed to have this little boy in my life.  There is nothing that I don't LOVE about being a mother...and I hear it just keeps getting better...wow...WOW!!  I am so overwhelmed by this HUGE LOVE!!!!!!

One Year Ago

One year ago today, we found out we were pregnant with this Little Man.  What a journey it has been!

Jacob, you have been loved for a very long time - from long before you were in my belly!  You bring so much joy to our lives.

With love, Your Mommy & Daddy

I Love Firsts!

HE'S MOBILE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right.....mobile, as in MOVING!!  Jacob rolled over from back to tummy for the first time yesterday, September 11.

It was quite the event.

I walked in from work last night, and Tim was hanging out with Jake in the living room; Jake on a blanket on the floor, and Tim on the couch.  I said hello to Tim, and knew there was something "up" by the look on his face.  You see, we have this "rule":  whoever is caring for Jacob and is witness to one of his "firsts" is NOT allowed to tell Mommy & Daddy (or whoever is not there!) that "the first" occurred.  That way, Mommy & Daddy can be witness to his firsts, as if they are actual.

So anyway, Tim had this "look" on his face, and I knew that I'd missed something monumental.  I started tearing up, disappointed that I'd been at work and missed something so precious in my baby boy's life.  Now I know there will tons and tons more firsts, but I want to be there for all of them!  Call me crazy...but it's true! (yet another reason why I want to be a SAHM -- I don't want to miss so much time with him!)  Tim went on to tell me that no one had actually witnessed his first time rolling alone; Tim had been in the kitchen making a sandwhich, and when he came back, Jacob was facing a whole new direction on his belly.  I felt better that no one else had seen this first - I know I'm totally neurotic!  And would you believe that not ten minutes after I'd walked in the door....Jacob rolled from back to belly in front of both Tim and me!  TA DAAAAA!!!!  It was awesome.  We both cheered, and I jumped up and down, then layed down on the ground with him, "chatting" with him while he was doing tummy time.  It was funny too, because Sidney (our dog) got so excited that we were jumping up and down; she was gathering up her toys, thinking it was play time.

Later last night, Jake had a bath and was "chatting" away on our bed with me, and Tim got out the video camera.  About 5 minutes into taping, what do ya know?  He rolled over again, and we got it on tape!  YEAH!!  (Is it totally obvious that I'm a first time Mommy??!  LOL)

I'm still surviving the transition back to work; it's getting a bit easier, but I'd still rather be at home.  I told myself I'd give it at least 6 weeks - and if I'm still miserable, I'm going to attempt to work part time come January (this depends on if my position allows me to go P/T, which I think it does and if we can do this financially, and I think we can, we'd just have to scrimp and save which isn't a bad thing!).  I also have a plan up my sleeve to be a fulltime SAHM and also have an income -- a coworker of mine is due in early April 2007 and is desparately looking for a sitter or day care.  Hmmmm.......I am certainly considering it!

Okay, all for now.  Thanks for continuing to check on us!

Love to all!
