Cold Don't Know My Name

You know it's cold outside when your normally outdoor-obsessed, please can I go out again and again, dog is refusing to walk into the backyard; and if forced, will literally stand at the sliding doors gazing in at us, lifting one paw after another and whining. Loudly.

We resorted to putting a towel in the backyard, hoping that it would encourage him to go to the bathroom on the snow and yet keep his feet a little bit warmer, but the dog simply stood there and stared back at us as though we were submitting upon him some form of cruel chinese torture.

The strange thing is however, I'm not cold at all. Temperatures dropped to the minus thirties yesterday, and last night my husband constantly tossed and turned complaining of how cold he was and could I adjust the blankets on his back? I felt bad for him, especially since I was sleeping with simply a sheet over my legs, and I suddenly felt extremley thankful for my normally over-heated body.

My Mom used to laugh at me when winter came around in years past because I would wander around in blankets or hoodies - (I'd always be wearing the hood) - bundled up to the nines. Cold and I were never on good terms before.

But now? Now it doesn't phase me. I could totally handle getting pregnant every winter, just so I could have my internal oven ablazing.

 ...Or, maybe not.

You Probably Didn't Know

When I was in grade Nine, I made a fake poetry book and tried to pass it off as a real, published, collection of poems. The reason? I didn't do my homework, and when I made my own incredibly fake poems and attempted to pass them off as "real", my teacher insisted she see the publication from whence these poems came from. So, I took a 3 ring binder - made a book cover with the material from one of my Mothers old dresses - dipped some paper in tea to stain them and make them appear old - and brought it into school. My teacher laughed, but I got my passing grade.

In grade Four, the boys on the field told me I couldn't play soccer with them. I walked right up to them and kicked Travis Can'tRememberHisLastName in the bum so hard that it lifted him off the ground. I had my very first playground time-out, but I didn't even mind because Travis couldn't run after the ball for that entire lunch hour.

I buried my hamster in our backyard beside the house when she died. A few years later, I tried to dig it up again to see what it looked like. Thankfully, I can happily say now that I found nothing.

I collected hundreds of tiny plastic dogs and brought them to school all through Junior High. Shut up, I wasn't the only girl doing it.

I played Nintendo Mario Brothers SO many times when I was younger that I now have the ability to reach the last level in the game on one life. I'm not sure if I should actually be advertising that.

I took a sewing class for four years of my life, four very long years, and the only thing I really had to show for it was a bright pink rain parka and a teddybear that turned inside out. But I can do a mean backstitch with a sewing machine, a talent I will cherish forever.

If our child is anything like me, I can only hope that Baby will have as much fun as I did growing up. I just hope that the plastic toy dog thing while in Junior High will die with my generation.

And if not, heck, I love dogs. Sign me up again.

All....That......Food.....

Well it's hard to believe that I'm already into my fifth month of pregnancy. TIME FLIES. Of course, there are always new and interesting things happening both to my emotions and my body; it's been a very memorable journey to say the least.

I'm feeling pretty much back to my normal self, both with my energy levels and my ability to keep food down. I'm finding now that I suddenly have a huge increase in my appetite and I am not only constantly starving and scrounging for my next meal, I need to eat fairly large meals in order to feel full.

Other than that, Baby's first month of the new year is going by quickly. Baby is growing like a weed, as can be seen by looking at my belly, and loves to have little parties in my belly seemingly all day - AND - all night.

I've been putting off decorating (and even seriously thinking about decorating) the Baby's room because it means we have to find new homes for all of the spare junk that we already have piled in there. Not to mention I have about ten bags of clothes that I need to sort through and get rid of, which for some reason seems more daunting than it is. We only have a few months left before the baby arrives, so I'm hoping that we'll be able to tackle that room soon! As soon as I'm brave enough, that is.

And in the meantime, I plan on eating us out of house and home and making sure that this baby is nice and round and chubby!

Let's just hope Mommy doesn't end up with ice-cream-cone legs too, because somehow I don't think that will look as cute.
