Week 28
I heard back from the doctor's office late yesterday afternoon...and while I passed the sugar test (for gestational diabetes) with flying colors, my iron levels are low. So, they have given me some iron supplements to correct the problem. Apparently this is quite common in pregnant women at this stage of their pregnancy. By the way, 'this stage' finally means in the 3rd Trimester...woohoo!! Our monthly appointments with the doctor are now every 2 weeks.
Apparently, the official playtime of our son is between 5 and 8am. I've been really happy to wake up to him doing a little jig in there :)
I've added a picture of one corner of the nursery...it's coming along quite nicely. Josh painted the crib and the dresser/changing table last weekend and they look great! While it was a fairly large undertaking, Daddy was pretty happy b/c he was able to buy a new toy for himself...a paint sprayer...so it was a win all around. I put a picture of the painting effort in the Photo Album so you can check it out. Apparently, I can only attach 1 picture to each journal entry.

Week 27
Well, this has been an eventful week so far.
As I was in my car, driving the 2.5 miles to my office, I experienced what I believe to be a retinal migraine. I started to get nauseas, then started sweating, then lost my vision...meaning, that it just went bright white. Kind of scary when you're operating a moving vehicle. Luckily, I was on the outer road (and not on the highway) and was able to pull into a nearby subdivision until it went away. We went to see the doctor that afternoon just to put our minds at ease. They ran all of the usual tests, listened to the baby's heartbeat, and told us to keep an eye on it. Everything was fine.
Our first childbirth class was on Saturday from 9-4. Everything was going fine and we were doing breathing exercises just before lunch...and I could feel the same sort of 'episode' coming on...only this time I kept my eyes closed so I didn't notice the vision issues. This time I noticed that my hearing was incredibly muffled. Called the exchange...spoke to the on call doctor who just told me that it could be any amount of things. Not too helpful.
Anyway...I'm doing OK...class was good...just trying to take it easy. Back when I turned 30(ish), I went through a period of time...about a year or 2...when I had these retinal migraine headaches...brought on by hormones...so I'm assuming this is the same thing since there is probably a hormone or two running around in my body. We have our regular appointment this Thursday which includes the glucose screen and a test for anemia...so we'll see if those things turn up anything interesting. I'll keep you posted.

Week 26
So...Is this supposed to be the time where you are exhausted and can't get enough sleep? Over the past 2 weeks or so, I have been napping in the middle of the day and going to bed around 8pm some nights. Of course, Baby Emry has also been waking me up around 5.30 am with his morning step-aerobics routine...so that might be part of the issue. I guess this is just practice for the perpetual sleeplessness that is yet to come.
Thankfully, work has been really understanding and some days I actually have some energy :) I will ask this again...how exactly do people do all of this while taking care of 1, 2, even 3 additional kids?!? My girlfriend, Pam, mother to 4 children, tells me that I'm in for a RUDE awakening. My girlfriend, Jenny, also mother to 4 children, has agreed that she herself is clinically insane. I am in awe of both of them...and anyone who is responsible for constant care of anything more than a house plant! I'm sure my appreciation will only grow exponentially once our son actually joins us!!
We start our childbirthing classes this Saturday. We opted for 2 full Saturday's of classes rather than for a couple of hours per night over 6 weeks. I can't believe it's already here...I thought we had plenty of time before we had to attend those classes!! Time is starting to move faster, I think.
