I am now 38 weeks pregnant.

Pregnancy Reflections

Second Month

The hardest thing for me to give up is:
Is my way of life. I was a pretty busy person. My organizing, Capoiera, and having fun, all literally came to a halt. My body said "NO NO!, too much, too much. Just lay down!" With Capoiera I reluctantly had to stop when I began bleeding after practice. My socializing -- I am just too tired and sick to do anything. It takes too much energy to do anything other then lie on the couch with the lights dimmed and curled up with a blanket. And I fall asleep everyday about 8:30-9:30 and sleep till 8 am. Although I always feel rested and pretty alert in the morning,it's a trip to not be able to watch any of my shows like Project Runway, Grey's Anatomy. Thank goodness for marathon's on the weekends!

  This month I told:
Everybody! Everyone was so happy and excited.

  They reacted by:
The best responses came from my brothers Rey and Jr. I gave them boxes with little booties inside. Jr studied them for a second and then looked at me with such suprise and happiness. He gave me a huge hug and i could tell he was crying. Rey,took a second too and his look was priceless. He was so happy for me. I think he is the most verbose about his excitement for the baby. Oh my Dad! He was absolutely hilarious. When I gave my parents the box, my mom took a fraction of a second. She already had a dream about it, but actually thought it would be one of her other kids (who knew?!?!). But my dad was watching sports simotaneiously (sp?) and glanced over at the booties and then took a breath and looked back at the TV. He gave me a hug and told me he loved me. Then, he had to leave for a 20 minute walk. He had to buy a lottery ticket and some peanuts and then he was ok. What a reaction! i love it!!

When we told Chris's boys, that was kinda funny. I wanted to do it in private but it was right after Demitrius' birthday party so there were kids and family everywhere. We also gave them booties. At first Meechie thought they were for his bday and politely said thank you. His friend actually pointed out those are for a baby and then he got it. He had a huge smile. Dominic, I couldnt tell his reaction at first. I think he was more shocked then anything that Dad is having another baby! Yea, its pretty crazy. I have only recently been transitioning into Chris's family, but this baby has definitely solidified our connection to each other.

To the blending of families....

This month at my prenatal visit I learned that:
My first prenatal, my baby is 7.5 weeks. I saw the heart beating, it looked like a yolk. That was pretty amazing. I have been reading a lot so I didnt learn too much from the nurse except that hospitals test for a lot of, in my opinion, unneccessary things. I turned down a lot of tests because there is a high rate of false-positives that lead to more invasives tests, which are not ok for me. In addition, these tests can be conducted after the baby is born. I also know I am generally healthy and do not have a high-risk pregnancy. I did learn that for myself, I prefer a more spiritual pregnancy versus a medicalized one, and that in order to ensure that, I'd have to research and advocate for myself. Essential read: A Guide to Childbirth for the Thinking Woman; gives you the other side to what doctors advise so that you can at least make an informed decision on what is right for you.

New pregnancy symptoms I had this month:
Sick, sick, sick.

  My hopes:
My hope is that this sickness ends soon because so far pregnancy is not enjoyable!!!

  My fears:
I'll be sick the whole pregnancy like Auntie Lorna!!! (i dont know how she did it...twice!)
