Chasing the Elusive...

In an attempt to shake the ever increasing feeling of tiredness that has lately been mounting ontop of me, I vowed to spend today lying low, literally.

I got out of bed at 9:00am, after the most interrupted sleep to date.  I had approximately 8 - 9 toilet trips last night and 2 trips to the fridge for a glass of milk.  This equates to ALOT of waking and very little quality sleep.  Suffice to say, at 9:00am I was exhausted and starving.  But rather than going about my day as usual I forced myself to make some breakfast and take it back to bed with a book.

Breakfast eaten and a few pages read, I forced myself back under the covers in an attempt to steal more sleep.  It helped that today is slightly overcast.  We are in the middle of a drought here in Brisbane Australia, and we very rarely see grey, rainy days... though you could hardly call the spits we are getting rain it is infact not as sunny and hot as usual and this made sleeping in:

1. easier

2. almost a necessity!

So I dozed for 1 hour and had alot of crazy dreams.  Then I forced myself back under the covers, switched sides, slowly, and had another hour of crazy dreams.  Before getting out of bed I  forced myself to do a breathing and relaxation exercise and was actually quite surprised at how much tension I had in my limbs.

The funny thing is, though I feel relaxed and a little dreamy, I still feel tired!  But I bet when I lay down for sleep tonight, sleep just won't come, and when it does I will wake with the need to pee!  What a funny game these last few weeks bring.

Lapse in Memory

Just in case I needed confirmation that I am indeed pregnant (as if the swollen stomach and aching ligaments aren't sign enough...)

...On the way to the library this afternoon.

I prepare by going to the loo, having a glass of water, closing all the open windows, checking my wallet for my library card, grabbing my sunglasses, my car keys, my handbag... everything in check I exit the house and close the front door only to find myself standing there in bare feet.

Ok then...

Dropping Down Low

Just got back from an antenatal check up.  Baby is 3/5ths engaged!  Woohoo.  Their head is flexed (which I know from our antenatal class is GREAT, because it means the smallest part of the head will lead the way through the pelvis) and they are lying on my left side.. again this makes for the best possible delivery.  So if bubs continues in this position all should go well and smooth!

I got bub's carpets cleaned today as Caleb and I have had serious doubts as to whether or not the previous tenants actually got them cleaned.  Now I feel confident that the carpets are fresh, hygenic and looking the best they possibly can be, which isn't glamorous at all - trust me.

I also went to a pre-loved baby store on the way to my check up.  They have EVERYTHING there!  Wraps and blankets for $3 or more!  I bought baby a mobile that will match their room.  Not knowing the gender I have tended to lean towards lime green!  So the furniture is all white with highlights of lime green and other primary colours dotted throughout.

I also went to a discount store yesterday and bought x3 white photo frames and an assortment of coloured card and wrapping paper.  I am going to make up 3 distinct, different pictures in the frames and hang them side by side on baby's wall.  I will post pics when I am done.  Should be a nice, little project to keep me occupied.

I also, bought some pine shelves and white spray paint.  Caleb got stuck into them last night.  When they are all glossy and white we will drill them into the wall and put some stuffed toys atop.

And lastly... another unexpected blessing, thankyou Lord, I was off to Kidsafe today to get a hire baby capsule installed into the car (=$130), when my girlfriend contacted me and asked whether I would like to borrow her capsule as her bub has just grown out of it!  Yippie.  A saving of $130... now I can go spend it on.... shoes!  Just kidding.

Oh, and the blood test worked!  Praise the Lord!  I don't have to go through that again!

Full Term

Today we had our breastfeeding class with the Australian Breastfeeding Association.  It went for 4 hours!  But all in all, it was well worth it.  We were AGAIN the youngest parents in the class.  Which is weird considering we are 26 and 27, not 16 and 17!  Most of the people there were obviously in their mid to late 30's... anyway.

We watched a video that showed how a baby that has been through an unmedicated birth and placed directly onto the mother's chest straight after birth will find their way to the nipple.  Quite amazing!  The video also showed a poor, little baby all drowsy, the after affects of drugs, lying on the mother's chest unable to lift it's head let alone coordinate it's mouth to the nipple.  This reaffirmed my decision to push for a natural birth.

So we are now officially full term.  37 weeks was reached yesterday.  It is strange being this far along as everyone opens their eyes widely with expectation when I tell them.  It seems not so long ago, we were the ones with months to go and only a little belly to show for it.

But here we are....

My Braxton Hicks are very regular these days but not anywhere near as painful as they used to be.  My midwife said that would be thanks to the Rasberry Leaf Tea.  So, thanks Rasberry Leaf Tea!

I have realised I am so used to interrupted sleep these days.  Getting up for the toilet, and waking in an attempt to roll over are just part of sleep to me now... I honestly don't remember the last time I lay down, feel asleep and woke up 8 hours later.  Funny!

There a quite a few things for me to take care of this week, so no doubt, it will go fast.  I am debating when to use the massage and pedicure voucher my girlfriends gave me for my baby shower... next week, in between all the tasks?  Or the week after when all I will have to do is wait...??
