Interesting
Soooo......there was this chick in one of our classes who was very interesting.  Basically they were asking about pain meds and we were discussing who was getting them for sure and why, who wasn't getting them and why, and who was on the fence and why.  It was a very interesting discussion.  There was one girl who said she wasn't getting pain meds because since she did the crime she would have to pay the fine and do the time.  She basically said that since a woman did the crime of getting pregnant that the woman should suffer through the pain.  She must have had an interesting childhood!

Final Classes
Ok, we are done with parenting classes!  Brad was jumping with excitement.  Even though he gave me problems going and complained about it to all his friends who would listen, he did a great job when we got there and was really nice about everything.  It really wasn't THAT bad and we met some nice people.  Plus, it was nice to hang around pregnant people to get different perspectives on all of the decisions that need to be made.

I do like this quote:
The birth of a woman's child has an enormous, life-ling impact on her.  -Penny Simkin

The first 3 classes were strictly about childbirth.  We learned the terms of labor, stages of labor, pain management, how to create a birth plan, had a tour of the birthing center, and learned a few other things.  I really liked the tour b/c it showed me where I would be which will make me more comfortable.  I think it was very beneficial to discuss birth plans and all of the options available to you.  It will be nice to not be hearing terms and options for the first time when you are actually in labor.  My favorite was pain management.  Brad got to massage me and help with with deep breathing to figure out what would take my mind off of the pain.  To do this they had us hold a handful of ice in our hands for about the length of a contraction to see if the method our partner was using took our mind off of the pain.  I liked the slow dancing and massage, however, the rolling pin and paint brush massages didn't work.  The tennis ball massage felt pretty good too!

The next two classes were about newborn care which I thought was really helpful.  We learned how to bathe a newborn, care for the umbilical cord, care for the circumcision, etc.

The last class, which I let Brad miss, was the breastfeeding class.  Very interesting and had some helpful information.

Overall I think it helped.  I did learn different things here and there that I applied to our registry or that helped in our decision-making process.  :) :)

Doc Visits Update 6-15-08
We are starting to have more frequent doc appointments since it is getting closer and closer to the due date.  The last time I wrote we had just attended our 1st visit in May.  Since then we have had an end of May visit and a beginning of June visit already.  Time sure flies....pretty much as fast as the weight is increasing!  Whew!

The doc visits are definitely getting shorter.  At each visit they check my urine to ensure that I don't have gestational diabetes or the start of a UTI.  So far so good!  They also check my weight (the docs say it is on target but geez it sounds like a lot!), my bp, my heartbeat, my temp, and the size of my uterus.  Everything is good and on track!

A lot of magazines say that you MUST start doing a kick count everyday.  The doctor said this really isn't necessary as long as I feel him moving around and take note of it.  He usually is active around 11:30am and 11:30pm so I'm feeling ok with his movements right now.  At the last visit she was able to tell that the hard spot I always feel is his butt which is to the right of my belly button.  His shoulder is to the left, and his head down below.  He is in perfect positioning now, but he still has a few weeks to go to flip around and play.

We had a slight scare.  A few times in the past 2 weeks my left foot has swollen to the size of the incredible hulk.  It was scary looking and gross.  Behind my left knee had also become sore so I was limping considerably.  However, my right leg was fine.  Just to be sure it wasn't a blood clot the doctor ordered a leg ultrasound.  Thankfully everything looked good, yeah!  I just have to be careful with the right leg and try to elevate it as much as possible.  I also have some small vericose veins in that leg which are probably contributing to the problem.  Plus, that is my surgery foot!  :)  All in all I am fine though!

I have another visit at the end of June right before his brother's wedding which is good.  The doctor can check me out once more to ensure I am ok to go.  I need to call the insurance company 1 more time too to make sure everything would be good.

2nd Shower - Work Shower
On May 30th some of my work friends threw a lunch baby shower for me!  It was so nice.  I have really felt like I have not formed relationships here like I did at Discover so it was nice to see that I do have some friends in the organization.  (Definitely NOT the same as my Discover friends....but who could top that!  :) )

My shower was thrown by my old bosses Yvonne & Melissa.  They are very nice people.  Melissa is the one who gave me a ton of maternity clothes to use which has been very helpful.

For the shower we went to the Great Dane downtown for lunch and it was very yummy!  Everyone was very generous so we received our video baby monitor which is so cool!  We also received some other very nice gifts.  One in particular I was excited about b/c I haven't received any 'mom' shirts yet for the baby.  Most of his clothes are geared towards 'dad'.  The shirt says 'my mom rocks!' which is so appropriate since I am a rockstar and have been since college.  :)  Well, at least the door in my door said so and my phone tells me everyday when I open it!
