I feel bad that I didn’t have time to write an entry last week, but between the move, work, and just being pregnant, life has been a little hectic.
There hasn’t been all that much to report anyway. We still love our new doctor. She gave me some new vitamins to try as well as a couple of suggestions for over the counter medicines I can take to help alleviate the misery that is pregnancy. We heard the heartbeat which is still very cool.It was 150.I don’t know what that means, but the nurse at my school says that a faster heartbeat means it will be a girl.Again, I say: faster than what?
It’s funny; so many people have told me that I am having a girl that I have started believing it.Sometimes I have to remind myself that we don’t yet know the sex of the baby, so I should stop worrying about the boys she will date for right now.
Otherwise, life has been pretty normal.People daily feel the need to point out that I have a stomach. Every day I hear, “look, you have a belly.” Once, I replied, “and you have a nose,” but the comment was lost on them.
I am excited for the next few weeks because everyone has told me that I should start feeling the baby soon.I think that will be cool, although, again a bit alien like.

Busy bodies and my busy body
New pregnancy fun fact:Around your third month of pregnancy, your breasts start producing colostrum.
Translation:I have had four people comment today on the size of my boobs.
Like random people patting my tummy, making predictions on the baby’s gender, and laughing at my gi-normous belly button wasn’t awkward enough, now I have to put up with comments on the rest of my body?Seriously, if Matt ever complains about the few things I am making him give up so he can suffer with me, I may punch him because the no caffeine, alcohol, sushi, fish, peanuts, deli meat, and cheese is really nothing compared to the apparent public forum my body has become.
I think that people in earlier generations had it right when the women would just disappear for nine months. They weren’t doing it for propriety, they were doing it so that the random secretary in the front gate of the castle (or whatever) wouldn’t feel the need to point at them and say “wow, look at you!”Even my students are starting in on me.Today, after finally letting my class know about the pregnancy (mostly because I am beginning to look suspicious), one of my students blurted out “it’s about time; you were starting to look a little round.”(He won’t be passing the second grade this year.)
All this to say, if you see a pregnant woman on the street, don’t rub her belly, or tell her she’s having a boy or girl because she’s carrying high or low, or comment one the size of her boobs (Chris), because she’s probably already today, and you never know when a pregnant lady may just snap.

First ultrasound
Ok, I know I said the baby was crazy in my last entry, but today's ultrasound proved it. That baby was dancing in my belly. I haven't seen a baby move like that ever. Picture the dancing baby internet video from a few years back and I swear that's what Pookie was doing inside me today. (In case you hadn't caught on, Pookie is what we are calling baby until something more concrete comes along.)
Anyway, the baby would crouch down, then leap up with his/her toes extended as if it was playing basketball or something.Chris, you had better watch out, you may have some competition on the court if the baby keeps up like this.I think that the baby jumped three or four times when (s)he finally decided (s)he was tired, wiped her forehead, and started doing summersaults.Seriously, the baby is 12 weeks old and already it has Matt’s crazy personality.
We also found out that my due date was pushed back to October 10th which is kind of nice so that Lindsay and I don’t have to share anymore.I think everyone should have their own day. Also, the doctor gave me a prescription for my nausea which doesn’t knock me out and it dissolves so that I can actually keep it down long enough for it to be effective, so I starting to think we made the right choice by moving doctors!
Check out the ultrasound photos in my photo album. they are nowhere near as good as watching the video, but still cool nonetheless.

Latest Doctor's visit
We found a new doctor; she doesn't seem like the crazy person we had before. I think that its best not to have an insane person delivering my baby, but that could just be me.
While at the doctor’s office we heard the heartbeat for the first time. The nurse who was operating the machine told us that it kind of sounded like the arctic the way there was nothing but whooshing noises for a long time. Needless to say, all I could then think about was the crazy arctic while she was trying to find the heartbeat, so I was busy picturing the emperor penguins huddled together and imagining Morgan Freeman narrating something about how freaking cold it is there when the nurse finally said, "you hear that?" Of course, it's Matt's baby, so I think it thought we were playing some kind of game of hide and seek because no sooner had she found it, then the baby moved again. Ten minutes later, we finally heard the heartbeat.
It wasn't as emotional as most people told me it would be, perhaps because I was still thinking about those stupid penguins. Anyway, it mostly just sounded like what I would imagine a heartbeat of a person on speed would sound like. We could hear my beat, the slow: “bump bump bump,” then the baby's: “bubububu.” It's more than a little surreal to think that there are two beating hearts inside my body. I almost feel like a character on the movie Alien.
We have the first ultrasound on Monday, so hopefully we will find out if my due date is correct. I hope that it is, because I don't want it to move any closer to my birthday. It really stinks to have to share your birthday with someone else's special occasion!
