It's a boy!

So it's official, we're having a boy!  I know I have not written much lately, so let me catch you all up on what we have accomplished baby-wise over the past few weeks.

We went to the doctor and found out we were having a Thomas James (NOT TJ) rather than an Iris Marlene.  The baby is wonderfully heathy and hitting all the average marks for his growth and development which is great.  This is the one time in life you don't want your child to excel.

We have created a registry at Babies R Us and Target, which was fun.  There are way too many accessories that babies need.  Although when you think about it, adults probably need more accessories we just have a lot longer of a time to acuire the stuff.  Anyway, certain areas of the stores were scarier than others... feeding, safety, etc.  Mostly because it is slowly sinking in  that I am responsible for keeping something alive.  If plants could talk, my still wouldn't because I kill them all, so hopefully I will do better with a baby.

Also, Matt and I have successfully put together Thomas' dresser and crib which was not easy task.  I think that one of the tests of parenthood must be putting together the crib.  If you can't do it, you shouldn't have children.  If you can do it... well you probably just lucked out.

The only thing left to accomplish for Thomas' room is to paint over the pink.  (Yes, Matt, we have to paint over the pink.)  When we first found out that we were having a boy, Matt stated that "now we don't have to paint, because boys don't care aobut the color of the walls."  However, I am trying not to send the baby too many conflicting gender role messages all at once, as I sure he will have enough being related to the Adams and Seitz families.

And the baby is a...
...we don't know yet.  We leave for the doctor soon, I just thought I would write a few quick notes before we find out if we are having Thomas James or Iris Marlene.

I thought it was funny today that everyone was still making predictions as to whether it will be he or she.  Most people who had once said I was having a girl have now changed their thoughts to boy and those convinced I was having a boy now believe the baby is a girl.  Really, it's a 50/50 shot as my mom likes to point out, so it's anybody's guess.  Or, Caleb could be right and "the baby has a sister in there with him."

Either way, I'm happy.  There are challenges and bonuses to both genders, so really as long as Pookie is healthy, I don't care.

Last weird and random thought:  today as I was driving home I pulled up behind a black Maxima whose license plate said "POOKIE".  If that was some kind of a sign, I have no idea what it was a sign for.

My life wouldn't be complete without a Caleb story...

...so here it is:

The other day, as I was dismissing the kids after school, Caleb came running up to me and threw his arms around my stomach.  Before I could stop him, he kissed my belly.  Then he leaned back, patted my stomach and said, "ok, baby, I'll see you tomorrow."

Not much to the story, but I thought it was sweet that he is so concerened for Pookie.  Every day Caleb comes in, rubs my stomach, and lets me know: "Mrs. Adams, your baby is doind just fine!"

First movements

This week was pretty cool for pregnancy.  I didn’t throw up for almost five days straight!  Also, and slightly cooler, we started feeling the baby move.  It was about a week ago when I was feeling kind of funky at lunch time.  It was indescribable.  Katie asked what was wrong and I replied that I just felt funny.  She asked, “Does it feel like butterflies in your stomach?”  I told her that it did to which she replied, “That’s the baby, idiot!”  How was I supposed to know?  I’ve never had a person inside me kicking at my stomach before.  I didn’t know what it felt like.

Slowly, the kicking got stronger, so that I now definitely know the difference between the baby and an upset stomach.  For the first few days I couldn’t get Matt to feel it.  Every time he came near me, the Pookie would stop.  Finally, Matt was able to feel the kicking too.  Both of us think it is pretty weird feeling.  It’s very bizarre to think of a foot inside me let alone anything else.

The weirdest part was the other day when I was driving and the song Holiday came on the radio.  As soon as the song started, Pookie started kicking to the beat.  Seriously, I think (s)he may have Matt’s dancing skills and I don’t know whose horrible taste in music!
