Baby has arrived!

2008-09-08  (35 weeks)
Officially over it.
I am very, very, very ready for this entire pregnancy to be done with.  As if contractions every ten minutes for three straight weeks wasn't enough, I now have this random itching going on. At best, I feel like I have a really bad sunburn all over my body.  At worst, I feel like tearing off my skin with my bare hands to stop the pain.  Seriously, there is no way that pregnancy is supposed to suck this bad.  Poor Matt has to put up with me through all of it and is doing a stellar job.  I really don't know how he tolerates me at this point.  I don't even like me anymore.  I still have four weeks until my official due date, but I can only hope that I will have this baby early so that I can keep what little sanity I have left.  Aren't I supposed to have my emotional breakdowns after the baby comes?  I swear, after pregnancy, this baby thing is going to be a piece of cake.

Shower
For those of you that would like to view the photos from the shower a few weeks ago, you can go to www.seitzphotography.com.  Once there, go to the client gallery and type Thomas into the private galleries box in the upper left hand section of the page. I think you can also search for it under families and the title Jaime and Matt's shower.  It should be right under where the maternity shoot was listed.  Enjoy!

After 2 weeks of bed rest...
I have to say, I am loving staying at home.  I don't mean to imply that I want to stay home all the time, but I sure like getting my rest.  It has been so nice not to have to get up and go anywhere.  I still have several frustrations with work right now, but I am trying not to let them get to me so that I can remain unstressed and calm in order to avoid contractions. Not much else new and exciting in the baby world.

We had our first baby shower and it was lovely.  Thomas got a lot of great gear to prepare him for his stay here on earth.  I think the whole baby thing is getting more and more real as we realize that it could be as little as two weeks before Thomas joins us.  (Although my guess is still that he will try to take my birthday.)  Maybe we should start a betting pool on when Thomas will arrive.

For those of you that haven't heard...
Thomas apparently got a little excited about going to the hospital the other day for our tour.  I started having contractions on Thursday and continued to have them through the weekend.  When I called the doctor on Monday, they wanted me to come in to get checked out.  When I went in to the doctor's office, they hooked me up to this cool machine that monitored the baby's heartbeat and my contractions. It was kind of cool to see.

My contractions were pretty consistent every ten minutes.  The scale for contractions is 0-100 and mine were about at a 60.  (I'm not looking forward to the contractions that go up to 100)  So, the doctor thought it would be best for me to go down to the hospital to get the contractions stopped.  It's funny, when I was still waiting in the room, I could hear the doctor calling the hospital about me.  I must have come across as worried, because he kept saying that to the person on the phone.  I wasn't really worried...I was in pain!

Anyway, I went down to the hospital and checked in. (A girl from our tour was there at the same time checking in for a c-section, so I had someone to talk to while I waited... what are the odds of that? Weird.) Once I got there, they hooked me up to an IV, the same monitor that I had in the doctor's office, and a shot of some medicine that makes contractions stop.

Mom Adams and Chris came to visit. I think Thomas was really just trying to show off for Uncle Chris.  It was funny, while they were there, my contraction monitor stayed below 10, and after they left the contractions went up to the teens and low 20s again.

Luckily, all anyone kept saying was how great the baby was doing.  I think as long as I kept hearing that I was ok.  I really wasn't worried about anything.  People kept looking at me like I should be freaking out because I was in the hospital, but I just figured if something was wrong, someone would tell me.  Actually, it was kind of nice to have a 'practice run' at the hospital.  If anything, this whole experience has made me more calm about the whole delivery process.

So, no more work for me. I am on bed rest until further notice.  I have to take this awful medicine that makes me feel like I am crawling out of my skin, but the contractions have pretty much stopped.  I only had two yesterday which I figure is pretty good compared to the 6-8 an hour I was having before.  I go back to the doctor next week, so we'll se what they say then!
