November 6: Surgrey Scheduled

The cyst on my ovary is just too large, 12 cm (large grapefruit) and painful to manage for the entire pregnancy, so it is going to have be removed.

It is the safest to have any surgery during the 2nd trimester.  So.... on the 17th I'm going to go in and have it and my right ovary completely removed.  They feel it is faster and safer to just grab the whole ovary and sew me up than to try to remove the cyst from the ovary and save half of it.

Since we've pretty much decided that this is going to be our only child, saving the ovary isn't as important as getting in and out and reducing the risk to Lil Chop.  So.... they're taking the ovary.

I'm pretty nervous and at this point posing a real challenge to Porkchop.  God love him, he's a saint to put up with me.  I'm pretty much an emotional wreck all the time with all the raging pregnancy hormones and now the surgery.  He's holding up pretty good though, but I bet he'd like to just go have a beer and forget about pregnancy for a night.

October 18: Test Results Are Back

We had the high definition ultrasound and triple screen blood work to test for Down Syndrome and other really bad stuff.  I was a total nervous wreck and really didn't want to have it done.  But... we got it done and got the results back today.  Lil Chop is just fine, no worries.

During the high def ultrasound we were hoping to find out if we've got a girl or a boy, but Lil Chop simply wouldn't sit still for even a second.  I'm feeling more and more kicking these days.  What I'm really feeling is back pain.... I feel like I've been dumped off of one nasty horse and landed on my ass!  I guess I should be used to that feeling, however, I decided years ago that I'm simply too old for that anymore.  lol...

Please check out the photo album and click on the individual pics to see the high def baby pics.  We still think it's a boy and I say he has John nose. Very aquiline!  John doesn't like it, I think it's handsome.  :)

oh.... and i have a gigantic cyst on my ovary.  Did I mention that already?  Hopefully it's going to go away on it's own.

September 30: 11 Weeks 2 days (so they say)

We had our Dr. Appointment today, I'm 11 weeks and 2 days now.  We got to hear the baby's heartbeat.    John wanted to be there so badly but he had a project deadline and couldn't make it there so I called him on the phone while I was lying on the table for the exam.

The Dr. started rubbing goo all over my belly trying to find it and we couldn't hear anything.  Then all of a sudden you could hear a very faint sort of "gush" sound and the Dr. moved the doppler device and it got louder and louder, "gush, gush... gush... gush" Sory of like a horse galloping.  It was good and loud, John could hear it through the speaker phone.

Dr. Eckel says that it sounds great, normal is 150-180 bpm and Lil Chop rang in at 165.

I'm glad that even though John couldn't be there for the appointment that he got to be a part of that moment.  He was pretty upset that he was going to miss hearing it.

So, in two weeks we will have a High Def Ultrasound and blood panel to determind if the baby shows any signs of Down Syndrome.  We're keeping our fingers crossed.    It is totally non evasive and safe, so this is the way we want to go.  If the test comes back totally clear then we won't have to do an Amnio.  If there are any indicationst the Lil Chop could possibly be Down's, we'll go ahead with the Amnio.  Next regular OB appointmnt isn't until October 30th.

This is a stock image of what Lil Chop looks like in there right now!  To see it better, click on the image itself on the My Photo Album page.
